New to Dosbox, I'm looking for help to setup fullscreen at its best
Hi all,
I'm new in general to PC gaming, but I've learned alot during the past few months... That said, Dosbox is still uncharted territory for me.

Basically, I'm looking for guides - if that's even possible - to configure its fullscreen mode at its best.

Right now, I found what I consider a very good setup for windowed mode, at least with the first couple of games I tried, Screamer and World Rally Fever.
These are my display/CPU settings:

fullscreen=false
fulldouble=true
fullresolution=desktop
windowresolution=1440x900
output=overlay
autolock=false
sensitivity=100
waitonerror=true
priority=higher,normal
mapperfile=mapper-0.74-2.map
usescancodes=true
machine=svga_s3
memsize=16
frameskip=0
aspect=false
scaler=none
core=auto
cputype=auto
cycles=max
cycleup=1000
cycledown=1000

With all that above - on my I7 8750H laptop (16GB, GTX 1060 6GB) to an external AOC monitor (1080p) - I get pixel perfect IQ, coupled with spot on performances: smooth framerate, solid pacing, no stuttering, no tearing... It all seems to run beautifully, to my eyes (and memories).
And yeah, I'm part of that tiny minority that prefers VGA at 320x200 multiples, instead of forced to a 4:3 aspect ratio (no matter what, it looks too narrow, to me). Apologies. :D

Now, to my issue: I can't replicate the exact level of visual clarity AND performances, when I try to go fullscreen.

Overlay becomes unusable, and the only two output modes that don't scale - to preserve pixels' sharpness - are openglnb and ddraw, which - in my case - also reintroduce tearing (in spite of double buffering being still active) and hit the frame rate in a way that is very subtle, but noticeable nonetheless.

I'm still learning what means what, so I didn't really venture all that far, but I'd immensely appreciate if someone (maybe with similar specs) could chime in and give me some clues.

It's not a huge deal, mind you: the reason why I'd like to go fullscreen with Dosbox is that some other classic games that use different engines - ScummVM for some graphic adventures, for example - default in fullscreen very nicely, so I'd like to give them all a consistent presentation.

Thanks alot in advance! ^_-

Well, just in case someone else may experience the same inconsistencies, in the future, I think I fixed them by changing my monitor's refresh rate.

When I posted my first message, I was using a simple 1080p/60hz profile - which I read is not always ideal with DOS games, due to their original and most common refresh rate being set to 70/75ish hz - so I switched to 1080p/144hz, as my monitor supports them, and that worked very well. Fullscreen performances are now much improved on stock DOSBox, very happy about that.

Now, once I'll feel confident enough to try it, I'll definitely check some custom DOSBox version, for a definitive experience.
