Sent trade offer got cancelled and items missing from inventory
I sent a trade offer to my friend with 5000 gems, my friend tried to accept the offer and it failed. Now the offer is in my history as cancelled and the gems are missing from my inventory. It's been 3 hours since and they are not in either inventory. How can I get help ?

You've been scammed. Your account, or the account of your "friend" are likely compromised.

Either that, or Steam is being really super slow, but... why would you send that much in one go?

No scam involved, the gems are in limbo somewhere I think but I can't get any item support from the support pages. And 5000 gems is like a dollar so not that much.

Definite scam. You have a phishing site in your name history. This is the common API scam and your account is compromised. Do the following steps in order and without fail:-

Scan for malware. https://www.malwarebytes.com/

Deauthorize all devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage

Change your password on a secure device.

Generate new back up codes. https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage

Revoke the api key https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey

This scam works by you entering your credentials into a phishing site and getting hijacked without your knowledge. Any trades you make are then automatically declined and re-routed to a impersonating bot account. Trade history should confirm the item(s) going walkies to a random account.

Put down the foil hat for a minute, no offense. My trade offer was sent at around the same time when the community servers were hit at full force when the day switched and due to lag they are in limbo. It shows clearly in my offer history that the offer was cancelled. No "phishing site" can manipulate the offer history page. I've checked on multiple devices. Also this isn't the first time I've had this problem but last time there were still links to make a support ticket.

I just need to find a way to make a support ticket for the incident.

Besides, how desperate would a site have be to scam 5000 gems ?

Was the trade re-directed to another account though? Check your trade history.

We see this happen daily and the fact you have the biggest phishing site going in your name history rings alarm bells.

No, it says "Trade Offer Canceled 1 Jul, 2019" on the Sent offer history page, there are no gem trades in my trade history.

Keep your eye on it is all you can do. It could be the servers or the trade could be compromised.

Trades being cancelled randomly can also mean that the people controlling the trade via your API key deem it to be too low to hijack. That's another possibility. In the meantime, you should probably consider doing the above steps anyway to be on the safe side especially after using such a notorious site.

Noted. Thanks for trying to help. It might be already solved in the morning but I just wanted to document this fresh.

I've seen a similar report in this forum earlier today. Definitely something, we should keep an eye on. While it could be a server issue, a new spin on the API scam can't be completely ruled out either. Let's hope, it's not.

I was reading in another thread a few days ago that it is suspected that trades below a certain value were being declined but not redirected in the hope the victim would perform a beefier trade later. Because of the nature of the scam, every trade still gets hijacked but the scammers only swipe trades of a fixed monetary value and above. That way they don't end up with just scammed trading cards and then the victim realising they've been done this way.

Hope the OP isn't affected but it does seem a possibility and I expect this concept will grow targeting only high value trades rather than all trades made.

Ok so the gems are still not in either inventory. How can I make a ticket for this type of bug/incident ?

do what was posted to secure the account, your items are gone.
