HTC vive issues with USB drivers/ potential issues with valve index

alright so ill try and summarize and explain this issue in short order. i got an HTC vive earlier in the year a few months before the index announcement and while my vive pro works it has a couple glaring issues that haunt me a little and id like to know in advance if im going to need to replace my motherboard or something.

when i tried to troubleshoot the vive pro the first time my issues were the camera not working at all and that in steamvr under "USB" only bluetooth showed up under devices and nothing on the headset lit up including the base stations. VR still works perfectly fine.. sorta. i was able to get camera working but unfortunately i cant change the camera rate its locked at 34hz for some bizarre reason. i remember reading on a thread that ASUS mobos had a software conflict with the USB drivers for the vive that could explain this both of these problems but never found a solution to fix it. im also beyond 100% positive my system is VR ready my specs are

ASUS ROG xenith extreme MB
nvidia RTX 2080TI
32gbs RAM
ryzen threadripper 1950x

also running the most recent version of windows 10

while VR works this USB problem in steamvr makes troubleshooting a nightmare and recently i had a random issue where the headset refused to update despite complaining it wasnt up to date and then locked up my steamvr until my computer restarted then it was magically fixed. it couldnt detect either base station during this.

ive also previously gone to HTC vive's support page and got nothing but a redirect to a steam thread

the fixes i tried then were
*uninstalling and reinstalling steamVR and vive software packages respectively
*selectively deleting usb drivers for all needed devices and reconnecting the vive to reinstall them both through the steam tool and a third party tool
*forcing windows updates
*running compatibility checks
*virus scans
*deleting unnecessary clutter
*turning off background programs
* checking alternate usb ports (i tried 6)
*troubleshooting the vive through steamVR using the developer panel
and a few other random fixes that sometimes help on my system


I NEED TO KNOW IF THIS IS GOING TO BE A PROBLEM ON THE INDEX and if so how can i fix it. HTC has dropped me in the dust and just ignored my replies to the ticket i made before after i came back saying their fix didnt work. ive already spent a ton of money trying to rebuild my system after i found out i had an incompatible GPU for the vive pro and spent a ♥♥♥♥ ton on the new RTX card since it had the needed ports.
