Steam Friend List opens randomly when away from computer

Issue is as described.

If I'm away from my computer for any extended period of time (work, sleep, etc.), when I come back to it I find the Friends List has decided to open itself. I've looked around through the forums already, and a lot of people having this type of issue say that it happens when Steam or their computer starts up or is restarted.

The issue I'm having is happening independent of that. I'm not telling my computer, or Steam, to restart and the Friends List is opening anyway. I've been having this issue for the past few months, have looked around for a solution before, and never could find a good resolution to it, or any posts from someone having a similar issue. (Again, most posts talk about Steam/their computer starting/restarting to have this problem. That problem isn't my problem.)

I'm just curious about how many other people are having this problem, if Steam is aware of this problem, and if anyone has any fixes. It's endlessly frustrating for me since the last thing I want is to have the Friends List burned into my laptop's screen, detracting from gameplay experiences and work.

To note: I've looked through the settings for Steam and the Friends List each, and even tried reinstalling Steam, all to no avail.

Been having this issue recently. Gets really bad since it also seems to wake-lock my PC and makes it impossible to get any sleep since it is "whirrrrring" loud as hell at night because steam is bugging out.

I have resorted to disabling my friends list entirely by launching steam through a shortcut with the arguments: "-nochatui -nofriendsui -silent"

But that makes me appear offline and makes it impossible to interact with my friends without re-enabling the friends list and causing the bug again.
