Overclocking on an FX 6300 and msi 970a-g43 plus MOBO?
So this is my first build, i'm somewhat new to PC's still even though I've owned this one for about 4 years now. I'm just now getting into OC because I have a game that I could benefit off of if I had more FPS. Atm my MOBO is AM3+, my only options are to get an 8350, upgrade, or try to OC my 6300 to get as much GHZ as the 8350, the last option being my goal. From what I understand 3DMark said on the 1st test I got 18-17 FPS, the 2nd was around 13.86. I found a few guides online and I followed their instructions to the best I could but I'm still getting the same results on the program and I'm sure I didn't do it right. Could anyone give me some help with this? Feel free to PM, I also have discord.

Check thermals with HW Monitor, post a screenshot after you've done a stress test.

Forgot to mention, I'm using the demo version of 3DMark, I believe the option to stress test isn't available for me.

Well the 6300 has fewer cores than the 8350, so even at equivalent clockspeeds they won't always be equal.

And more mhz doesn't always mean more FPS. It will in games that are CPU limited, but if your GPU is second rate all the CPU power in the world won't overcome that.

So what is your complete system specs?

Instead of upgrading to a 8350, consider this:

Better mobo, RAM, CPU, for only $35 more than just the 8350.

+1 to this.

You can also try to bide your time, build up income and get something modern and more powerful.

Does it look like this?

You can get a decent but not crazy overclock on that.
