How do I add a shelf with recent news?

Sometimes a shelf pops up that has a collection of recent posts/news about games one owns. But I don't know what causes it to pop up and I tried adding it as a shelf, but the option isn't there. Any ideas?

If you're in offline mode it's not displayed.

Did you remove all the items shown in it? Are you using a custom skin or have you modified the .css files? Are you running the beta client?

The What's new -shelf should be there by default. It can be removed by tweaking the .css files, going offline mode, deleting all items (and it pops back when new items come). Otherwise it should be there.

I really did nothing, I got rid of the recent games shelf and I added my currently installed games as a shelf. Then I closed steam. When I came home, I switched it back on, and the news shelf was gone.

You should the shelf is called "Whats new"? Huh I'm not getting that option to add either.

Yes, the shelf is called What's new and it's there by default. It can't be added manually as it should be there unless you've taken measures to remove it.

Have you disabled community content from View -> Settings -> Library?

I for sure didn't remove it, as it was one of the few things I liked about the new layout. I checked settings and I did not disable content (I tried toggling it as well). And I just restarted my Steam to see if maybe that would work? It did not.

It's weird they don't let you add it back.

Do you know of a way to perhaps for a factory reset of the layout?

I didn't even remove it and the What's New shelf is gone. I enjoyed it and would like to be able to add it back.

It seems to be bugged for some.

As I stated yesterday in another thread, I still have items in my What's New.

On topic, my What's New section also disappeared. My cousin, who I most play with, still has his though.

How many games do you have? I've got a theory if all the news times out (so it's not new anymore) the shelf will disappear.

I will never see that though (I've got a couple of games that will always post an update once a week, plus hundreds of other games).

Around 700+ games haha, so I don't think that's it. Unless losing your internet connection could time it out. Hmm

I lost this shelf too, i even removed steam completely and re-installed and it didn't re-appear.

Yeah, no clue why this happened with some and to others don't and it doesn't have anything to do with people having less games, since i have over 9k games and my news was very full of them before the tab "recent news" disappeared

Over 4k games here and its gone too, so it can't be that.
