Steam inventory
Can anyone tell me in simple terms, what is steam inventory? I have been reading pages and pages, but cannot seem to get this answered. I understand it is some how used to trade or gift items. So can I put my games I no longer play into inventory? And if not what is it used for?
Thank-you.

Games cannot be resold or exchanged, so no they cannot be put there (they used to be, gift copies anyway, but that was changed thanks to abuse).

Basically it's stuff from in-game efforts, such as opening loot boxes and getting item drops from enemies. It's also crafted cards, some games have 'trading cards' that come up when you play for a certain period of time, they can be exchanged like a pokemon card or whatnot - for sets, and other cards, and that generates "experience points" for Steam Level. It's all fluff, basically it's for show - but some games have items which can be traded or sold on the market here for stupid money. (which has led to the shutting down of certain aspects of it more recently, due to money laundering with it...)

It's just 'the place Steam puts your stuff that you earn from playing'.

Oh okay thank-you I appreciate that. It is just fluff then. I was wondering what those "cards" were I received during game play was. Appreciate it.

So if a game is permanently removed from ones account would that make the activation code valid again?

Thanks. I wish I knew that PC games were not transferable before I had built my computer over a decade ago. I was tired of after a few years, you now need PS3 now, 4. I figured I could build a biotchen computer and not have to worry about it. Now I got piles and piles of games I cant trade. Oh well, guess they get you one way or another lol. The market has just caught up to the computer I built. at the launch of PS3.

Your account will always have games you've registered on it. Deleting them from your PC doesn't remove them from your account. You can put all those games on whatever computer can run them.

The way the industry is headed, the console games won't be tradable either in the near future. And while your Steam games aren't tradable, the advantage you have over a console is that they are always yours and will allow you to play them on any future computer you buy. Not so much forced obsolescence.

I was not aware that console games were going to become permanent as well.

That is exactly why I went to PC. Did not want to keep buying expensive consoles I needed to maintain to play my entire library. I also appreciate the fact that the graphics tend to be multitudes more detailed in PC games. So I guess all in all, it worked out other than my piles of games I will never play again... But hey, I also learned how to use / build computers in my endeavors as well. Previously, I had not a clue how to turn one one much less the difference between a browser and website.

The market had just recently surpassed my I-7 a year or so ago I purchased (prior to being available in pre-built machines). With my video cards, and RAM, I do not foresee video games surpassing my computer yet. I probably have a year or two more before requiring upgrades.
