Well, even if its not sold anymore it still works. If your smart TV supports android apps you can also just install the "Steam Link" app to stream your games to your TV.
Unfortunately my TV doesn't support android. Is there any dedicated hardware I can purchase to add this feature to my tv?
Turn a Raspberry Pi system into a link.

Or just purchase a used link.

Replace monitor with TV.
Most TV support connecting to PC DVI cable
Switch TV to avs or other device ie your PC .

for inhome streaming
a used link, pi, android box, htpc, and a few other devices
I had a Steam Link and it worked so well when plugged into ethernet to my router. Unfortunately they don't make the SteamLink anymore but you should be able to pick one up used and Steam does still offer tech support for them.
Don't bother going through a network. Cut a loop of fabric from an old t-shirt, get a couple of short dowels and a pair of boot laces and fashion a hammock that you can use to hang a laptop next to the TV and connect directly with HDMI.

Or build a HTPC form-factor PC for the TV.

Why is it such a thing anyway? You just have to connect your TV to your PC via cable.

Sure if the TV and PC was in the same room. I saw this working really well over at my friend's place with 2 stories gap between the two.
