not marketable
Is this a recent change? I recently bought some steam items, but found that they aren't tradable or marketable. I'm sure they used to be marketable right away before. And then to confirm if it's only with steam items I bought some game's item, and it was marketable right away.

If you are talking about keys for ingame crates. Ya to many people were laundering money with them.

I wasn't talking about keys, I was talking about steam items not being marketable e.g. trading cards.

Wait, CARDS AREN'T MARKETABLE ANYMORE!
Well ♥♥♥♥, now I cant buy my badges anymore.

Depends on the game the cards are from.

Read the restrictions on the market page for the cards.

there's a waiting period after purchase before you can sell/trade them. is that what you're referring to?

Yes, I am talking about waiting period. I mean before they would be marketable right away. And then another steam item I bought was also not marketable right away. I just wanted to know if it's a recent change.

There's always been a waiting period on purchased items that I know of. Been that way for a while.

Went looking for information. Can't find the official Steam announcement but it appears the change for purchased items took place back in 2015:

https://steamcommunity.com/groups/tradingcards/discussions/1/618456760257416688/

"Note: Steam Trading Cards, Profile Backgrounds, Emoticons, and Gems purchased on the Steam Community Market will not be tradable or marketable for one week after purchase. We are making this change to combat fraud (which artificially increases the prices of these items), and to help maintain a safe and healthy item economy within Steam.

Untradable Steam items can still be used like normal. They just cannot be immediately used in trades with other Steam users."

Maybe Hotsauce's knowledge goes deep enough to find the official announcement.

:D

That's weird, I remember being able to sell them on market right away a few weeks back.

Dropped cards from games, yes. Bought cards from the market, 7 days lock before you can resell.
Has been that way for a long time.

Maybe I am confusing it with that.
