Steam Cloud - How long does it keep old files for uninstalled games?

Someone on one of my games says he uninstalled the game a year ago and reinstalled it recently, but found that all of his characters are gone. Does the Steam Cloud ever age out old files from uninstalled games, or are they intended to be permanently stored?

Steam cloud is just a back up of your local save - and not all games use it

I have Portal 2 saves from 2011 still on the cloud

I never really use Steam Cloud so nothing old of mine has ever been overwritten!

Good point. This is an older game, so maybe it doesn't use the Steam Cloud.

Another player on the game's Discussion pages has confirmed that the game does not use the Steam Cloud.
