Accidentally Changed App Used To Open SAV Files
Hello.
I was attempting to look at a SAV file in Notepad, and accidentally had the checkbox for "Always use this app to open SAV files" checked.
The game saves are now listed with the Notepad icon, though they still work in-game as normal.
If someone could please let me know how to reset SAV files to the proper app, I would be very appreciative.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for replying.
I'm having some trouble understanding your instructions.
I've right-clicked the save file, selected open with, and deselected the "always" check box.
From there, I cannot click ok without selecting another app.
On my other PC, Steam saves are listed simply as "Unknown application." Is there a way I can select this for those files?
Thanks again.

Here is an easy step by step guide on how to do it via windows registry if the file extension is .sav

Start the Registry Editor (regedit.exe), and go to this branch:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.sav
Note down the (default) value data in the right-pane. It’s the ProgID associated with that file type.

Right-click the key .sav, and choose Delete.
Click Yes to confirm.

Go to the following HKEY_CURRENT_USER keys and delete the .sav key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.sav

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Roaming\OpenWith\FileExts\.sav

This will remove the file association settings for .sav file type.
The deleted file type should now be treated as unknown by Windows.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
