PS4 Controller Not Working in Rocket League (Windows PC)
I had no issues connecting my PS4 controller to Steam on my Mac, in fact the steps were easy, but on my Windows PC it’s WAY more challenging then I remember - specifically getting it to work in Rocket League.

I’ve gone to the main settings page and my controller is connected, either wirelessly or wired. I made sure to check the box for the PS4 Configuration Support along with the Guide Button Focuses Steam.

Next I went into Big Picture Mode and went into the controller settings and did the same thing.

After that, went into Rocket League and before launching I went to the Manage Game option. I click Controller Configuration and I get the message that the PS4 configuration support is disabled and I need to enable it...why is this happening?

I’ve also launched the game and hit the home button on the PS4 controller to pull up the controller options in the game itself. I go to controller options and under the Steam Input Per-Game Settings I choose the option Forces Off. After that I restarted the game but again the controller did not work.

HELP PLEASE :(

TL;DR
After a bit of testing and it working for me: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1770814127
Turn off the configurator under [Steam > Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings]
__
PlayStation Configuration Support

* = Apparently the per-game [Force Off] isn't enough for Rocket League, because it possibly has some conflict issue with DirectInput and Xinput that way. Meaning, turn off the entire configurator if you want to play Rocket League with the native DualShock support. Hotswapping seems to work fine as well (meaning you can turn on the controller mid-game and the game will pick it up, that's not an issue.)

If you still have issues, ensure that no other controller is interfering with the game by using the joy.cpl command with the Run -prompt. If you have other controller emulators, disable them. Do note that in wireless play, the official PlayStation adaptor is not supported.

PREV.
Because Rocket League actually has native DualShock 4 support you may want to try to turn off the configurator altogether (or at least refer to [Force Off] on the game's [Properties > General])*. https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Rocket_League#Input_settings

As the game does support all controller standards, it might be picking up some peripheral as primary controller, which can include mouse, tablet, webcam, etc.
Remove unused controllers
  1. Push ⊞ Win+R and type joy.cpl then push OK.
  2. From Advanced settings... set your used controller as primary one and then push OK.
  3. Locate all unused controllers listed and either unplug them physically, disable them from device manager or with virtual controllers uninstall from control panel.
