Steam's 90-days Region lock policy
Hello there, a german lad charming in, I'd like to ask the following:

I'll be on a splendid and well-enjoyable VACation in Italy in 1 week and I am planning on buying Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition in the Italian steam shop since it is my favourite game, by using an italian internet connection, available in my hotel and the italian steam shop to which I'll switch then, temporarily. This is neccesary due to the german version being censored and the international version not being sold/available. Will this work by paying with my german steam balance and will I be able to play the game after the 90 days have passed?

Much obliged, yours sincerely

Myriad

If game has region lock it'll say on the store page and in the checkout page something like this
"Game purchased in country_name can only be played in these countries list_of_countries"

If you see that, you'll have to wait 90 days before you can play it in other countries.
If it doesn't says anything then you'll be able to play it immediately.

Anybody has an idea perhaps?

You can not use games that you bought in a different country I think... For example if I buy a game in Russia I wouldn't be able to play it in Netherlands.

I think you misread, did you hear about the 3 month period of games unlocking?
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

If you buy in the same tier of eu, same price region,
the only thing that can happen is if the developer choosed a region lock for the game.

Read about sleeping dogs.

Muppet, you’re barking up the wrong tree there. For a start, there are no tiers in EU pricing any more - they were removed ages ago and people weren’t happy.

The definitive edition is not the collection. Myriad should be fine buying it in Italy but it will become temporarily region locked upon returning to Germany.

But if you’ve got some spare money on a credit card, Square Enix are selling it much cheaper from their store and it’s a Steam key. Consider that if they still have it discounted when you get to Italy.

If the same price was paid, there is no 90 days.

The regular version is not sold anymore.
The collection is hard locked from germany.

Thats why my "barking" was actually the right answer in all aspects.

That sounds like if its bought in italy it should work after 90days.
Clarify it for yourself.

Geolocks are the cheap developers choice

So, you basically say the same thing? I'll buy it and it will work after 3 months?
Thats what the 2. link told me.

So you better try to make sure that is the case. The developer should not be paid for that decision and you dont get a game......

I appreciate the effort, I am rather sure and convinced at this point that it will work, it probably won't be on sale, but I'll glady invest the 20€ to finally be able to play it legitimately
Read the replies to that link.
And find other sources.
