Updates are preallocating on my other hard drive (HDD) instead of the drive the game is installed on (SSD)

Lately when games have updated, Steam has been preallocating the update files on a different hard drive than the game is installed upon. In this instance, the game updating is installed on my C: drive (SSD), with 60+ gb left, but Steam is preallocating/downloading the updates on my D: drive (HDD). I do have games installed on both hard drives.

This is an issue because it takes FOREVER to download the updates on my HDD, when it could download on my SDD in fractions of the time. There is more than double the install size of the game remaining on my SDD.

So, my question is, is there are way I can change what drive Steam download to? My C: is set as my default Steam library folder in the Downloads section. I assume I could just remove the D: from my library folders, but that defeats the purpose of having multiple drives.

Same stuff. While updating ark survival installed on ssd, hdd usage is on 100%. Anyone?

Try to make the downloads folder a symlink to somewhere else.

Ongoing downloads/updates will have to be restarted.

Best to have Steam installed on the other drive though.

wrong steam harddisk steam default disk , so it use HDD as download ( maybe this is more a ark issue, as i recall people with multi disk never had issue with this before. it even ask what disk to install is on. ( so is this a update screw up that use wrong disk ?or no room ?

it seem to be frequent that steam user have issue with that game only.
