EDIT: All my audio drivers are present, yet I apparently have "no audio output device" installed.
In my case, restarting fixes it every time. Seems like installing a steam update causes this every once in a file (~1 time a week)
Sure enough, when I checked the "HD Audio" option in the BiOS, it was set to "disabled". I set it to "enabled" and all my speakers and mics came back when I got into Windows.
So I'm thinking there's a good chance for anyone else who can't get their speakers back from doing any of the things mentioned above, try finding your audio setting in your BiOS and see if it needs to be set to "enabled" or "on".
Has anyone found another fix?
Every time this happens, steam stream speakers are the only device recognised by the audio management. If I disable (or enable depending on its current state) steam streaming speakers, the pc immediately decides that it has a sound card, it shows up in the device list and the audio kicks back in. This works 100% of the time.
Step by step:
1. Right click audio device in task bar - > open sound settings
2. Click manage sound devices
3. Enable (or Disable) steam streaming speakers
The annoying part is I have no idea why this happens, or why toggling the steam speakers suddenly fixes the problem until next time. I've found little to no official information on this, but it's evident that other people are suffering the same issue!
Disabled and uninstalled Steam speakers and microphone, and am now without audio output devices.
Downloaded and installed Realtek driver, but it is not showing and does not seem to fix anything.
Can not find an Audio option in the Bios. Feeling sad :(
