Audio Output Device Replaced With Steam Streaming Speakers - No Audio Output
So Steam seems to have replaced my audio output device with "Steam Streaming Speakers." Issue is, these "speakers" that do not exist do not output any sound at all- my computer is effectively muted. I have no other output devices available, and plugging in headphones does nothing to fix the issue. It won't even detect that headphones have been plugged in. This just started yesterday. What can I do about this?

Imagine re-installing windows after downloading 200Gb worth of games to fix sound issues...

what a waste of data😭😭 someone please help me, I cant use my BT speakers
I was able to fix the issue by simply Shift Restart Windows. It was the first time this happened to me, so I will report, if it comes back or the issue changes.
It first occurred after installing a 170GB game.
How to Shift Restart: Hold Shift while pressing Restart in the Windows Start Menu. In the following blue menu just select "Turn off your PC"
HEY, I encountered this problem today, both Steam Streaming Devices and AMD Streaming Devices seemed to have been the problem. As the guys up there say, uninstall them in the Device Manager, then IN THE DEVICE MANAGER go to System Devices, there just Update the High Definition Audio Bus'es that have an exclamation mark next to them, hope this helps!
I did find a fix for this a year ago. think it involved uninstalling all, an then pull power cable from PC, and hold power button for 30 seconds.
Same exact issue for me. I set a game to download overnight. At the same time my graphics driver tried to update. But it failed and I didn't know as it also reset my computer with the update. Went to Nvidia control panel and it said I didn't have a graphics card installed. Reinstall the driver. Everything went back to normal.
Here is how I fixed the issue.

Bottom right speaker icon right click on open sound settings.
Advanced Sound options click on app volume and device preferences.
Put a youtube video on.
Scroll through the audio output options and see which one eventually puts out the audio.

So I just got the steam deck, and I streamed a game briefly to it from my pc. After it gave me this issue. Using the default (speakers) audio output I was getting no output where before it would auto switch to my headphones when I turned them on. I managed to solve this problem by disabling the "speakers (steam streaming speakers)" and the "speakers (steam streaming microphone)" in my system>sound>all sound devices settings. I now have normal audio operation again. For some reason the steam streaming seems to take over even when it is not set to default or selected as output.
Same thing happened with me.
you can disable steam streaming speaker in sound manager but you will not able to stream properly
had the same problem, just reinstall...

reinstalled windows. problem solved.
Reinstall the game or steam?

When I disable the Steam Streaming audio devices, FFXiii straight up doesn't load past the SQUEENIX logo.

When I alt-tab back and forth with Star Wars Battlefront II (2017) sometimes it works again through the intended audio device.
I had this on a old laptop. So I deleted Steam audio and Mic from Audio and Sound under Devince Mananger. Then had to find my laptops model number and redownload all the drives. So sounds back.

dude you saved me, i just bought the oculus quest 2 and tried playing super hot vr and when i stopped playing i had no audio, i did what you said and it works, do you know if i have to enable it when i want to play again tho?
If anyone else is facing this issue, what saved me is disabling the steam streaming input & output services through the system-sound-all sound devices and restarting the laptop afterwards; just like the user TruePug described it above.
What initially caused the issue for me was that I streamed my laptop to my smart TV, but I didn't even use steam or anything, so it's very weird and intrusive that steam decides to swap your sound devices over and screws up the entire system.
If, by any chance, you're using Steelseries GG, I might have the solution to this problem:
.
I have been changing all sorts of settings now for the last 2h, as my System kept reverting back to the "Steam Streaming Microphone" as my output device in GG.
This only happened since I've been using the Meta Quest 3 VR Headset and SteamVR / Steam Link.

MY Solution was:
- Open the Steelseries GG app
- Go to Settings
- Go to Sonar -> Backup Device Switch
- Change the order of priority devices in the list at the bottom,

When I installed SteamVR, apparantly, GG set the Steam Audio Devices to highest priority Backup.

This is actually so frustrating. Had this issue 2 years ago paid $400 for a laptop repair and the solution was for them to keep the laptop in windows 10 operating system. Now same situation with my new gaming laptop.
