an important question about game save files
Does compressing game save files by any means can cause it to be corrupted? I'm planning on backing up save files and sending it through my email but unfortunately, needed to compress it since yahoo doesn't accept a large file.

Note many games on steam use cloud saves which means they will be retained on new computers

If you are concerned about your saves, which is 100% legit, I recommend using this utility instead

https://www.gamesave-manager.com/

Its a much much better way to save off your save games and transfer them to a new system. Their database of saves is extremely extensive, and addresses games that put save files in weird place you'd likely never look, like in the hidden AppData folder.

Its a highly recommended tool and safe to use.

It probably would be better to put them on like a usb stick and transfer it? I'm curious why you're using email which is really only like 1 step better than using sneaker net (and its infurating how real estate agents seem to think email is an alternative to dropbox.........)

No. Data is verified while compressing and while decompressing. It's extremely unlikely that data gets corrupted this way.

To add to that, file compression has been around for decades, and save games aren't special files.

i was suggested also on that app, but haven't really gotten into it. Do i need to have like an account to gain access to it? And does it have the similarities of a cloudsave? like if i tried to reformat my pc and retaining back my savefiles after by logging in on that app.

I've considered a usb stick as an alternative tho. But in my case, yahoo mail is the only thing i trust since there are also several private files that i used to have there. And as what @Cathulhu said, if it indeed doesn't corrupt the savefile then i'll gladly consider it more.

No, Gamesave Manager does not need an account and it does not synch online like a cloud. It creates local backups which you can easily copy to another system and use GameSave Manager to restore the backup on the new or current system.
You can email the backup somewhere or just use a USB drive to copy it.
