Download speed capped at 2.5 MB/s
I have about 500 Mbps (60 MB/s), and no matter which downloads region I choose I always get maximum of 2.5 MB/s. Download limit is off.

This does not happen with internet downloads or torrents

It's been a while since I played anything on steam so I don't know for how long this has been happening. Any fix?

Go to your Steam "Settings", select "Downloads" and look for "Limit bandwidth to"
From there choose "No limit"

As I explained in the post: " Download limit is off."

Change your download zone to Israel. This has been a thing for a year. Valve is obviously throttling its western servers. Trace Traceroute just proves it.

I'm having this problem for a long time ago, maybe a year. I only have this problem with Steam. I can download at max speed from Uplay, Origin (using the EACore.ini fix), GOG, etc... but never from Steam. I'm always capped at 3 MB/s or around that :cgrazz:

From time to time I search if there's a fix for it but never find a solution. I've tried many things but nothing works to increase the limitation :steamfacepalm:

That kind of worked, I'm now at 3.0 MB/s

You won't always get the maximum rate and sometimes your CPU or disk is the bottle-neck.

Steam downloads are heavily compressed, unlike other gaming clients like Uplay which just hands you the files as it is.

Most CPU's cannot keep up with the file-checking.

3 MB/s is ridiculously slow for a CPU or HDD

That's your current download rate not how hard the disk or cpu is working.

Try CLEAR DOWNLOAD CACHE. (settings -> download -> clear download cache)

I had the exact same issue on a brand new PC. I found the problem though, I had this software running called "Dragon" from Gygabyte. It's a network throughput management tool that ensures your downloads don't kill your ping or gaming experience. I disabled that s**t and my download speed shot up from 2.5MB/sec to 101MB/sec. You might have something similar running, I've seen it with Killer NIC's also in the past.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
