Question about backing up save files
Hello all! I am sure hoping someone can answer this question for me!
So basically, I am getting a new PC (and going from Win7 to Win10) and am currently in the process of backing up my PC. The last time I had to do this was about 7 years ago or so, and back then all the game folders with Steam also have a save folder - I now noticed that, that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

So my question is ....
Because of the magical "cloud" is there anything to backup or does it all just "load" when I install Steam into the new PC.
If there IS something to backup, what exactly do I back up?

Thanks you in advance for your help!

Considering that cloud sync was enabled, and the files were synced, they will be reacquired.

You can still DL existing cloud files: https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage

There, you may find CFG's and so on, for games that have settings also synced to cloud.

Ideally, most games also generate local config and save-games as well as syncing to cloud.

I am quite positive you're mis-remembering. I do remember some games way back in the day where the save folders were inside the game folder (like early 2000's, win98), but that hasn't been the norm for well over a decade. The vast majority of games have been saving to My Documents for as long as Windows 7 has been around. With a handful storing game saves in the user app data folders somewhere.

https://www.gamesave-manager.com/ I would recommend this. I've been using it to archive saves and throw them in dropbox. But you could easily use this to collect all your saves and restore them to a new PC. Not every game supports cloud sync, so I wouldn't rely on it alone, without knowing all the games in question.

Thanks a lot! Via searching on Google, I have found many different answers, so I figured it was time to ask the ones who would probably know best :)

Yes, I most definitely have Cloud enabled, so it's great to hear that, that should be fine.
Also, thanks for that link.

Thanks, I will check out that program!
