What's with Steam Offline mode lately?

Works perfectly fine when Steam servers are up or were up last time i was logged in.
But when they aren't even if i was logged in before they crashed.

Steam Offline doesn't work it asks me to login again lol.
Its no longer "Offline" mode then now is it?

It seems it only prompts asking if we want to use offline mode if we're not online. If there's a connection it doesn't give that option. It was the steam servers that were down for a bit, your internet connection was working. If you want to continue playing steam games if/when the steam servers are ever down again disable your connection; turn the wi-fi off on the computer or unplug the ethernet cable if it's wired. That should cause the prompt asking if you want to use offline mode.

Yea i clicked "Go Offline" when i noticed it said "Disconnect" on my friends list and saw on steamstats that it was down.

It asked me to login and failed to go Offline even after i disabled my connection.

Weird. I exited the client when the servers just went down. I was tempted to try going offline but didn't. I did just disable my connection though to test it and yes, it does still ask you to login but after you enter your password if there's no connection the offline mode prompt appears.

That what it should have did but instead it gave me login error and wouldn't let me go Offline.
and i saw on reddit that i wasn't the only one with this issue when i was googling this few months ago and now i had same issue today.

Offline mode glitches out / doesn't function properly once servers crash like they did while ago.

Very possible. I didn't try it when they were down. If you disable your internet does it do it now? Mine does.

Offline mode works perfectly fine when Valve servers are up or were up before i cut my connection.

Once they are down and i try to go Offline it glitches and refuses to go offline.

This should probably be brought to Valve's attention so they hopefully provide a solution so it does work. I always wished there was a way to just launch the games without the steam client running and without them going through the client if you launch through the exe directly. Once we own a title and it's validated that we own it imo we should be able to do that.

Very unlikely to happen but what if steam would shut down forever some day? We'd all be screwed not able to play any of the games we have through it.

It was possible before. Offline mode worked fine even when Valve servers were down.
It changed i think after they introduced the new chat UI or somewhere after that.

Because yea i remember with 100% certainty that Offline mode was working even when servers were down.

If I remember right, long ago, there used to be an offline mode button on the login window near where the "I can't sign in" button is now. We didn't even have to login.

Yup... this time around there was no button, totally locked out of our accounts even for offline play. This happens again, we go back to ripping games. ♥♥♥♥ Steam!

Yeah that's pretty shotty. We bought the games we should be able to play them indefinitely with or without steam. As I asked; in the event Valve closes it's doors (unlikely but...what if?), then what? Are we all just SOL?

If that outtage is any indication of what the future holds.. than ya were sol. Like i said though... time to just start ripping again!

I don't remember the last time that happened. Maybe it was them restarting the servers for some reason. So I'm not too worried about it. I will be if it starts happening often though!
