What Does Preload Mean?
I was asking because I see that at this current moment in time, Destiny 2 is available for Preload. Now, I just got off a long day at work and I'm graced with this gift?! This is great! :-D

My only concern is that I have no idea what it means. I assumed it meant that it was free for a certain time? I've never seen this on Steam before so I immediately associated it with 'Free to Play For the Weekend'.

I did do some research on it, so I can assure you I'm not THAT lazy but all I found were technical responses that I didn't understand so I guess I just want some clarification;

Can someone confirm if my idea of it is correct?

You download it on your Steam library, but can't be played until it's released.

After I download it and it's released, is the game mine to keep? You're saying that if I uninstall it for any reason, it'll still be in my Steam library to install later?

It means that the game isn't released yet but you can download it now to have it ready for when it'll be released.

Okay, so after it's released and it's already in my library.
If I uninstall the game for any reason, will it still be there? like is it mine to keep?

Or am I just dumb and you still have to pay after its release?

Destiny 2(base game) will be a free-to-play so you won't loose it if you uninstall it.

Once you have a license, you keep it. Works with paid games as well. Revoking your license when uninstalling is so evil, not even EA would do it.

^ this

This is what preload means.

It makes sense for companies such as Valve(Steam) to do it so they don't have to deal with millions of people overloading their servers trying to download a game at the same time on release day.

It is nice for consumers because it means if you are waiting for a games release date you can download it in advance rather than having to wait to do it on release day.

As for Destiny 2, i don't know much about that, but it sounds like the base game will be free to play. So anyone can download it to their library at any time, and uninstall it and reinstall it any number of times, just like any other free to play game on Steam

Omg, thank you guys!
Sorry, I'm a little bit of an airhead when it comes to these things so thank you for putting in the effort to help me understand what that meant. :-)
