CS:GO freezes computer, force shutdown only works
My CS:GO has been crashing my computer since the beginning of December 2017. When I open it within 1 - 5 minutes is freezes the my computer and I am not able to Alt Tab or open Task Manager. I have to force power it off to restart it. The only thing that had changed before it started happening was Windows Update. It seems to happen when I connect to servers since I have been able to play offline with bots for at least 5 minutes before trying to play comp or casual. I am able to play many other games in my library without any issues expect Left 4 Dead 2 caused it to freeze as well. I am at a lose here. My GPU is only a few weeks old and his problem happened before I got it. I did a clean install of Windows so whatever it is has to be with my specific computer since all the software is fresh.

Reinstalled Windows 10 Pro
Reinstalled CS:GO
Reinstalled Steam
Reinstalled Nvidia Drivers
Disabled Xbox DVR
Disabled ShadowPlay
Stress Tested CPU (thermals fine)
Stress Tested GPU (thermals fine)
Swapped GPU (1080 and 680, same issues with both)
Re-Seated CPU, GPU, and RAM (new thermal paste for CPU)
Installed on a different SSD
MemTest86 for 1.5 hours with no errors
Removed my autoexec

ASUS Sabertooth Z87
Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz (overclocked but it's been overclocked since I built it 2013 with no issues)
Corsair iH80
EVGA GTX 1080 FTW
32GB G.Skill Sniper Series 1866
Samsung Evo 850
Antec 1000W PSU

games cannot freeze your system

You have a low level problem taht is causing issues on your system to do so

1) bad video drivers
2) OS system issues
3) bad ram modules
4) bad motherboard
5) bad video card
6) bad psu

I have ruled out all these as I stated in the post expect maybe the motherboard and psu. Hard to think it can be either of those since my computer runs fine doing everything execpt CS:GO.

I contacted Steam Suport and they suggested using the -safe launch option. I don't know or why this fixed the issue but it wasn't freezing up anymore after I did and the problem has been fixed since I removed it. I am guessing it reset something in the game files that was causing the issue.
