How to Delete/Change Controller Config [FIXED]
And I don't mean bindings for a specific game. I'm talking about simply remapping them, when you first look under Controller Settings and scroll all the way down to see your controllers. I mapped some buttons wrong as my controller is sort of weird, and I've been trying to remap them. I registered them, I enabled Steam Gamepad configuration, but when I click on a key and press a button on my controller to remap, it does absolutely nothing.

Also, after I deregister the controller and restart my computer, it's automatically registered again?

I know I can change them for each game, but I would just like to have the buttons corrected in general.

Nevermind, all I did was just reset and delete a bunch of things. Kind of inconvenient and not a true fix, just a work-around, but it'll do.

Are you using a Steam Link? What controller?

I don't understand exactly where you are doing this, what binding is it?

There is no universal binding for steam controllers, they generally assume you have the buttons where they are on an xbox controller or similar positions.
You could make a new binding, save it as a personal binding and then make it a template?

My apologies, I just now realized that I used the incorrect terms. I don't mean key bindings at all. I mean remapping the controller buttons on this page: https://i.imgur.com/X806PTW.png

When I opened that page the very first time I was able to manually map all the buttons.

Also, I'm not using a Steam Link, I'm trying to use combined JoyCons with vjoy driver. After I registered them on that page, everything was working perfectly except I noticed some of the buttons were in the wrong place and I wanted to remap them.

Did you ever find a fix to this?

Apparently not. I want to know how to reset these easily as well as how to delete any config in the standard Big Picture Controller Config Screen.

I found a fix today after looking for weeks. Hopefully it works for you as well.

• Disable all Controller Support Options (IE PS4 Support etc)
• Exit Steam and unplug the controller
• Open the config.vdf file stored on your computer
• • By default it is located in - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\config\config.vdf
• Search for "SDL_GamepadBind" and delete everything underneath it
• Save the file
• Start Steam and plug in the controller

Thank you so much, this shouldn't even be needed but Steam doesn't seem to care at all about their own software ease of access stuff.

THANK YOU, I couldn't for the life of me figure out why my Retrobit SEGA Saturn USB pad was constantly registering whatever directional input I pressed last

Wow, thanks dude! This fixed my Xbox One controller & PS3 gamepad being stuck in a shared config with no obvious way to get them seperated, where/how did you find this though?

Trial and error if I remember correctly. Glad I could help you though.

Life saver, thank you! My controller configs were completely trashed and I had no idea where to even begin fixing them.

Doesn't work for me. I cannot reset my controller name in Steam settings. Where else are the controller settings stored? I want to completely reset all controller settings.
