Use the client, right click on the game and under properties.

Well, you obviously can't do it with non-Steam shortcuts.
its only on steam

Verifying game files is something that Steam offers for Steam games.

GoG: Manage installation -> verify/repair
Origin: right-click on game -> repair
I don't know about Uplay, I have no Uplay game installed that isn't from my Steam account.

If there are other legal providers, they might have similar functions. Physical copies usually do not have it, Illegal downloads probably don't, either.

Uplay has it almost the same as Origin.

Right mouse click -> [Verify files].
