Big Picture Mode On Screen Keyboard Problem - XBox One controller

So this is relatively recent, and typing used to work with the controller, but now, whenever I am in Big Picture Mode and try to search, or chat with friends, a giant overlay of the Steam Controller pops up with a hint to move your fingers across the Steam Controller wheels. Well, I'm using an XB1 controller, and it won't let me move down to the OSK, because apparently I need to acknowledge the giant steam controller overlay - but nothing works except "B" to back out, "RB" to space, and "LB" to backspace.

I checked in the controller settings, and it's reading as an Xbox controller, and the Xbox templates are loaded. Tried with generic checked, with Xbox unchecked, and I'm not sure what to do next.

What if you go to Big picture settings>On Screen keyboard? What is it set to there? Tried changing this?

A screenshot of that giant controller overlay thing might be helpful.

Settings for On Screen Keyboard are: Default, or Daisy Wheel. If I change it to Daisy wheel, it just automatically changes it back when you change screens. It has done this for a while now though, like a couple months. Thought Valve just decided to drop Daisy Wheel support, I think I read that somewhere on reddit.

You can usualy get it working by applying a community control scheme, but it's buggy and sometimes needs reapplying etc. The big picture controller customization must be a little buggy all over the place because it causes an issue in GTA V where you cannot activate special abilities

Hey Dude...had the same problem u need to go in the controller settings and activate the xbox-configuration assistance...hope it works now in my case this was the solution ^^

You need to set you left and right analog stick to something. Setting left to left cursor and right to right cursor allows you to enter text in a dual control configuration. I set both mine to directional pads so I can use it to select each letter individually and the A button as click. My experience with the XB1 controller in steams big picture UI has been less than stellar, but hopefully this helps.
