Why do I suck so badly at FPS games
I'm looking for any advice that I can to help improve my personal performance when playing FPS games like Call of Duty or Battlefield. I come from console, and was actually really good on there. I know that some people would say that it wasn't actual skill because of the aim assist, but even in games that didn't have aim assist, I still did pretty good. I always held above a 1.80 K/D ratio from any Call of Duty or Battlefield after 2011. So I have the map knowledge and stuff like that, but I feel like my reaction time is sub-par on PC. Also...my aim. I can aim, but I don't know how some people snap on people instantly, or hold their sights on people no matter how much they strafe or dodge. I've been trying so hard and I can do decent, but that's it. I struggle to go positive a lot of the time. I've forced myself to use the mouse and keyboard for about a year now. Which I really don't like.

I have good hardware, a mid to high end setup of a GTX 1060 6GB, i5 7600K, and 8 GBs of RAM. I have really nice peripherals. So it's not a lack of hardware or accessories. All are Razer. A Razer Mamba TE, Razer Ornata, and a Razer Firefly mouse mat. I've found a comfortable setup with sensitivity, and have all the games I play setup to that sensitivity. Eight inches gives me a full 360 degree turn. And I'm playing at 1,000 DPI. All the games I play stay well over 60 FPS and I have v-sync off just to make sure I'm not getting as much lag. My internet is decent, and my ping is around an average of 40. I can't piece together why I'm so bad. I am playing on a TV, but it's a small 24 in. Vizio at 60Hz. It list a 5m response time, but I'm not so sure about that. I just can't figure out what's making it so hard for me to do good. I understand that people that play on PC pay more to play games, so they normally are more dedicated and pay more attention, but I'm trying really hard too. It sucks because I spent so much money on my PC (upwards of $1,200.00 when all parts are factored in) and I can't even enjoy my favorite genre of games anymore. It's very discouraging and makes me want to play FPS games on the console instead, but I haven't given in yet. I've gotten better over the course of a year, but I figured I'd be a lot better than I am at this point. Anyways, sorry if the post is super long, but I just wanted to make sure people could understand my situation and see if you guys have anything insightful of helpful to offer from it. Thanks.

As ppl have said you need to work on what suits you, 1000dpi is high? I use 3500 dpi, mouse is very quick, tried all weapons etc to find which are best for me and the way i play. Camping is ok for the right weapon but if your aiming is poor your going to get killed a lot. Best way to play ww2 i find is run and gun, its fun and moving targets are harder to hit. And as in all things, practice is always good, you can only get better.

Try finding a good sensitivity that fits you

Also a dpi on your mouse that fits you

and warm up your aim with bots

I'm not sure how to go about doing that. I thought that I already have. Because when if I set it any lower, I can't react fast enough, and if I set it too much higher I can't maintain any accuracy. But I appreciate the advice.
1000dpi seems really high to me, but it does depend on the person.

Only advise to really give you is to keep practising and don't use vsync.

Thanks man. I'll just have to keep trying I guess. Happy New Year.

I have the same trouble in multiplayer games like Armed Assault III, I've been computer gaming for 35 years and am pretty experienced, but things happen that makes me certain that some players are cheating because they always seem to spot me first and blow me away before I spot them, perhaps they've hacked the game code to put a big marker over my head that tells them where I am..:)
Also they seem to have x-ray vision, always easily spotting me when I'm behind thick bushes and should be invisible, and they fire through the bush to kill me!
Also sometimes when I see them first, we begin shooting at each other at exactly the same time but its usually me who dies, not them, as if my bullets are slower than theirs!
Maybe they've given themselves a quicker time lag or something so that time runs faster for them, and slower for the rest of us.
Cheating bast***ds!..:)

The only thing that matters is,
set your mouse to make a 180 turn as easily as it fits to your reflex.

That way your mouse reflects reality. You would not turn more than 180 degrees if there is something behind you.

So look forward and set mouse until you can turn 180 easily but not more.
So you're saying something like a full mousepad length for a 180 degree turn?

I'm get the same feeling to, but I try not to think people are hacking, unless it's fairly obvious. I want to say that maybe the different weapons are what cause us to die in combat that starts at the exact same time for both people. Like, you know, you and someone start shooting eachother at the same time, but maybe because they're gun has more range and shoots faster it leads to them killing you. But the hackers are for sure a big complaint of mine. I can honestly say I don't think I ever ran into someone hacking on the PS4, but I did run into it on the PS3. But I run into a hacker every few games on Call of Duty WWII, which is really frustrating.

i don t have this problem, but is interesting read

No, the length that your hand makes to turn around 180 by reflex. If something is behind me, and it surprises me, i just need to move my hand on its own reflex, and i most likely turned 180. I dont move the arm much.
I assume you move too much around and therefor it gets difficult.

I can really support the already mentioned mouse sensitivity, it is the most important thing. It is different for every game and player. So, with every new game you have to try different values.

Another thing is display quality.
In some games you have a real advantage if you see shadows. In others you can get a lot of fps if you disable shadows or other gimmicks. Depending on the game you can just turn a bit better with less graphics quality. Or turn at all if you are standing inside an exploded smoke grenade.

If you can, use headphones, disable music.
I even disable text chat and voice chat in many games because there are just a lot of screamers and whiners which hinder my game play.
In COD the kids make me disable voice chat.
In Squad (only tested in the free weekend, ... yet, but it is a sure buy) you need voice chat or you are no help to your team -> your team loses -> you lose.
With good sound and no children whining about campers in your ears you can hear footsteps, shots, doors or just the sound of someone switching to a knife behind you.

Try different ways of behavior.
In some games in certain maps and against most teams it pays to move like you would in real life: No running, just moving, the weapon always pointing where an enemy would appear, keeping in mind that enemies might rush around like crazy and come from behind.
Sometimes this will just not work and you have to play like a crazy.

If you have a mouse with five buttons - mine did cost 15 Euros from amazon: "CSL - USB Gaming Mouse 9 Tasten" (is is a 5 button mouse, forget the title) - you can use the thumb button for melee attack in games that support that, like in COD.
If you have that in all your games, you will turn a corner, see someone, be terrified, jerk, hit the thumb button without a thought and have your next team kill. It can get a reflex so you really have to watch for allies.

In the end:
If you like the game, who cares about the kill ratio? Do you have fun? Then keep playing.
You don't have fun? Switch to another of the thousands of games out there.

Here's a good tip- camouflaged Ghillie suits make you invisible on thermal vision..:)
For example when I go tankhunting in KOTH with a Titan AT launcher, I always wear a 'Ghillie Lush' (the green one) because I know that enemy tanks probably won't see me, and I can clobber them at long range. Killing tanks gets you big money and experience points.
PS- there are several types of Ghillie, but DON'T take the tiger-striped one because it doesn't give as good thermal protection as the others.
Also, no matter what Ghillie you choose, your warm face might show up on enemy thermals even though the rest of your body is invisible, but a small face will be very hard for the enemy to spot..:)
