Steam keys YES or NO
Hello everybody. I tried getting some help in the Skyrim section, but I drew a blank. Now I am not a veteran steam user or even a veteran gamer, heck I started by buying The Witcher 3 this summer so it's only been half a year for me.

So as the titles suggests I would like to get some info on steam keys. I did my google research, but I see all kinds of opinions and I am confused. So maybe steam users can tell me - are those even legal? Should I buy?

Thank you all in advance and Merry Christmas !

Keys are fine as long as you stick to trusted sites who get them from the game makers themselves. Avoid the more shady `reseller` sites. Google the site names for more info.

I already did. But still, if you have experience in this area, could you tell me at least a couple of sites which have proven trustworthy? And just to be 47382746324% sure - there is no way to get banned from buying Steam games if you use keys since those are legal? :D

you cant get banned no but if the keys your buying have been fradualently obtained they will revoke your game license (in other words remove the game from your account)

greenmangaming, humblebundle you should be fine with there are other trustworthy sites out there but i dont use em, 110% avoid geetwoaye.com

The 3rd party keysellers posted on these two sites are legal.

https://isthereanydeal.com/
https://www.reddit.com/r/GameDeals/

Both sites go to great lengths, to asure that they are. So if you are unsure, crossreference your found keysellers with these two sites. They are pretty unforgiving, ant can spare you some time searching for legal keysellers.

As example greenmangaming was banned from the reddit forum, because one time they had a problem with some shady "The wittcher 3" keys.

Avoid the shady keysellers. If the game keys were stolen with credit card fraud, you can loose your gaming key, it may be revoked.

Keys are just another way of adding games. There are legit resellers and crooked resellers.

okay so I went to isthereanydeal.com and typed in Skyrim and the first 12 stores offer it for 2,80 - 4,20 Euros... so why would anyone even consider buying it from steam for 15Euros (this is the 2011 version, not the special edition) ? Am I missing something here?

Yiou are missing nothing. Most people do not seem to know about this, going only to the steam shop. They are sheep.

And btw. Search for the "Skyrim Legendary" version, it has all DLC included. ... Steam does not sell this superior version any longer. ;) If you intend to play the version with the most mods, that is.

Oh, and if you are using firefox as webbrowser use this addon: http://www.enhancedsteam.com/

It shows the deals from isthereanydeal direct on the steam shop pages of the games, if you use the webbrowser. .... Spares time, too.

I read several discussions and people would say that the older version is better since it has numberous mods available and you can really adjust the gameplay and the beauty of the landscapes itself whereas the SE is still fresh and there aren't many options for customization.

Any thoughts on this?

Skyrim Legendary edition is the old skyrim, with all DLC included. And the people are right about the old version.

The new version has the broken shadow engine from Fallout 4 included, the despicable paid mod shop called CC and only the "potential" for bigger mods, that nobody will make for that version. Potential does not give you any mods.

Well as I mentioned I am a newbie gamer so I have no idea what those shadow engines and CC are :D but all in all, since I care about making the graphics beautiful I should go with the 2011 version +DLC or Legendary right? And also one last thing.. here is a scenario - say I have purchased a key which later proves to be shady/stolen/whatever and the game gets revoked from my library but by that time I have it installed on my HDD. Wouldn't that mean that the only change is that I will not be able to play it through Steam and get achievements which I don't care about at all?

I think, you were victim of a scam, from a site posing as humblebundle. The message you got seems to confirm that. If you go to any keyseller, do it from the sites I posted. Only then you can be sure to be on the real site of the keysellers.
