Please allow VOIP numbers! All 3 of mine are ( Home phone, Wifi Phone, OnStar Car Phone )
I tried using my WiFi phone ( I don't have a 'cell' phone attached to services, but my WiFi phone, both of them are Samsung Galaxy S3 phones and I use one for development, and one I use for 'emergencies, as 911 will work on a deactivated unlocked phone' and as a WiFi phone to call anywhere in the world when I'm in range of WiFi which is every where I go )... Unfortunately, that number isn't allowed because it is VOIP!!!

I have a home-phone with Morris Broadband. It is VOIP too... Although when the primary Internet is down, the phone does work most of the time.

I have On-Star in my car - I tried that number too ( nowhere to receive SMS though, but I figured, worst case I can use Blue-tooth and pair with the car and receive the data that way )... It is VOIP too.....

I'm sorry, but in this day and age, it is uncommon for a company to waste resources using the old system of telephone-lines when VOIP is much less expensive, can reach around the world at the lowest possible rates aside from other services which are free, and can be paired with WiFi phones ( hell - Skype even sells WiFi phones for this very purpose and we do have PHYSICAL ACCESS TO THE PHONE, a fact Steam claims isn't possible !! )...

All of my lines are VOIP, and I don't see the point signing up a different land line at $30 to $60 for the most basic pay per minute rate, or sign up for a cell service for $50 per month with no such thing as 'unlimited data' any more ( unlimited means limited to 10, 25, 50, 100, 200, or 250GB before being charged per MB $1.59 or something USD ) when I have a broken neck, broken back, and severe nerve damage. I get out of the house 3 times per month if I'm 'lucky' to get food, physical therapy, and to see doctors. My On-Star is more than enough for that - hell my WiFi phone is more than enough because I can dial 911 even though it isn't a 'physical phone because it uses a VOIP number'...

Additionally, because it is VOIP, I have it hooked up through my computer. What is that called? Accessibility for the disabled... yet Steam provides absolutely none. Why punish the disabled who simply want accessibility and who can't get out enough to even warrant an expensive cellular service with a contract ( I wouldn't use a pay as you go phone to protect my Steam assets )? Why punish those who can't afford, or don't have a need, for a non VOIP line? Why punish those who work at home and use a VOIP service to speak with clients overseas?

For a global company, you appear very narrow-minded with a decision of this magnitude. Please correct the problem - the mobile authentication system is already bad enough but at least I can use my physical 'non-physical' Samsung S3, WinAuth, and Steam Desktop Authenticator to serve my authentication needs. Albeit incredibly annoying for those of us with multiple accounts with many many games each - or for those who are parents and manage a household of accounts, etc..

Please, please, please... correct the issue.

Probably not.

1. Wrong forum. http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/10/

2. VoIP #s are free to get for anyone who wants one. At least this way, users can't abuse it for games that require it for prime or mmr.

I have 2 paid services which use VOIP - OnStar and Morris Broadband home-phone. I have a WiFi phone which is no different from buying a Skype WiFi phone and having service through them ( I actually forgot, I do have a paid skype number too to make calls from any normal phone overseas with voip-rates, and to allow overseas clients to contact us ).... so 3 paid services with 4 numbers... Plus one from Google which has been active for 8 or so years...

So, there is no excuse that I'm abusing the services, and there is no excuse to ban paid services because it isn't any different from purchasing a traditional land-line or cell service - they're both paid and they both reach to a physical location. The skype can be forwarded, but the others require a different service - phone number forwarding isn't something new either, it has existed for a very long time through the traditional land line companies too...

I'm in help and tips... I need help. I need tips on bypassing this disgusting ban despite my paid services being absolutely no different from land-lines or cell services. Honestly, this reminds me of a much different time - turning good, honest folk away based on many different factors despite their money being identical to all others.. My service isn't any different, it's been active for YEARS and it hasn't changed, they're paid, they pass-through to a physical location.

There is no bypass other than getting a # that is not a VoIP.

Please allow VOIP numbers!
That is suggesting a change. It is why you are in the wrong forum.

I need help which is why I am in the correct forum. I won't ask for change - it is implied with my post but I'm not explicitly asking. Honestly, by banning paid accounts is no different than banning paid cell services - especially when they've been active for as long as I've had these. It should suggest stability and not scamming or shady practices.

Banning a home phone attached to a home on a mountain with a good foundation - it isn't going anywhere any time soon - which uses phones plugging into standard phone ports in the wall, a cellular service attached to a car which is fully paid off with the optional OnStar still ongoing, a Samsung S3 Galaxy Phone, a secondary Samsung S3 Galaxy phone - both used as WiFi phones attached to a service active for 8+ years even if the device has changed, again it is no different than traditional cell providers which also require devices to use WiFi in order to download large updates for installation or to bypass the ridiculous charges for data because of how expensive it is to maintain and build a huge network of towers -, and a Skype account with 2 numbers which are both connected to a debit card and acts as a paid service... is insane...

The communication and technology industries are constantly evolving - Steam needs to evolve and get out of the fear and hate era by not banning these legitimate services. What's next? Will they ban men from gaming because some idiot claims a game made them do something violent? Will they ban women from gaming because too many men impersonate them online? How about people with different colored hair?

It really is no different. I'm being discriminated against because the companies I pay for service with are intelligent and are phasing out the use of old and costly technology which translates to savings for the user, higher profits, and better overall service provided.

So, I need help to bypass this without relying on a temporary pay as you go phone number which will just get handed to someone else in order to protect my accounts. I need help to avoid a costly bill for something I'll never be able to justify the expense for and for which I'd end up with a temporary number which I won't be able to keep which, again, would put my account in jeopardy...

With these VOIP services, you keep your number for as long as you want - Google has given me this number for well over 8 years. I pay for the Skype number and it is good even if or when I move. I don't lose it just because I switch area codes. VOIP is honestly a much better way of directly linking a phone number to a person because it is much more permanent than a non-voip home-phone, non-voip mobile device, non-voip other device... I can link the same number through all of my devices - 1 number for both of my Samsung S3 devices, my PC, tablet, and more...

If a device goes missing, I can unlink it without putting my account in jeopardy. With a cell phone, it remains active for as long as it takes to either go to the store in person or call a representative and spend hours to deactivate... I only need to get to a device, log in and deactivate it taking a few moments and if I don't have any other device, there are others that do and it doesn't take but maybe a few extra moments to find a person to lend you their device for a few minutes to log in... You can even give them a $20 USD bill and still be saving more money in time than if you were to waste hours running around.

I'm sorry, but this level of discrimination shouldn't even exist today. I'm disappointed in Steam. I can understand putting limitations on VOIP numbers which are new, or under 6 months to a year old ( or numbers which frequently change hands for up to that long with a stable registry ) - I'd expect the same for new devices ( hell - pay as you go devices are pretty anonymous when paid for in cash because they don't require names, etc.. attached to them and yet they're ok but VOIP numbers, which require a WEALTH of information are banned... It makes absolutely no logical sense )...

Maybe I should go spend $25 on a pay as you go phone to activate the device, root the phone and grab the registration file to attach it to WinAuth then destroy the device. But the problem with that is the number will be passed to someone else quickly and my account would be placed in harms way with the number still attached. So either I'd need to change it - hopefully after registering a cell number it'll accept VOIP... My primary account has this number attached yet my other account which is also years old can't use it despite Steam claiming the same number can be used for multiple accounts. If my Steam profile is ever changed, will I be able to use the same number on it or will I be screwed and forced to wait up to a month before trades go through just because I refuse to pay for a service I don't need?
