Recommendations on CRPGs/Strategy RPGs/Tactical RPGs?
I'm somewhat new to the genre. I got to try Chroma Squad and XCOM Enemy Unknown a while back and found they were pretty fun but the NIS titles are too grindy and for some reason I never cared much for Fire Emblem.

So since they're on sale I've been debating on Dragon Age: Origins, Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition, Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, Invisible, Inc., Planescape, the Shadowrun games, Banner Saga, and Tyranny.

I'm not sure how well Arcanum or Planescape will run. Banner Saga looks amazing but it seems too much like an isometric Fire Emblem. Tyranny is expensive and I've been burned many times with poorly done "evil" protagonists/alternate routes. Invisible is more of a Stealth game. I'm a bit wary of Dragon Age due to EA. I am unfamiliar with Shadowrun outside of the general idea of Cyberpunk Fantasy. As for Divinity it seems a bit much for a newbie to jump into.

Shadowrun games are pretty good. I haven't finished the second one yet and haven't touched the third one sadly. But I have finished the first game and had a blast. Currently working on Dragonfall and its just as good. Also don't worry about Dragon Age: Origins despite the EA label its a pretty solid RPG in my opinion.

meet you here and there.

"May you walk on warm sands"

Sugar-Lips Habasi

edit: Planescape Torment (a lot of talking...) runs very well because it's a enhanced version, Arcanum doesn't run very well i can't get it running @ 1080 because i own the german version . the german version doesn't work with all the english patches only 4:3 work for me.
Shadowrun is a bit clean enviroment and a bad rulebook gameplay imo.
i never finsihed divinity original sin because it's realy boring gameplay with AOE on the ground everywhere.
i thing the only 1 left is Morrowind :) or if you mentioned Tyranny take a look at Pillars of Eternity it's 100x better then divinity both.the old divinity are awesome games too (the first and second ). Maybe take a look at wasteland 2...

Morrowind is a great game, it has nothing to do with a tactical rpg, though. Planescape Torment is a great game, too, but combat isn't all that important.

Pillars of Eternity, Baldurs Gate I + 2 and especially Icewind Dale I + II are great tactical rpg' (Baldurs gate have better Stories, Icewind Dale have better and harder combat).

Wasteland 2 is a fun game, the combat being a bit on the simple side, the Shadowrun games (Shadowrun Returns, Dragonfall, Hong Kong) are great and have pretty good squad based combat but they are pretty linear and quite short (but the complete package is a steal at $10)

Banner Saga is more of a tactics game than an rpg, pretty linear but not bad. The Blackguards game are somewhat similar.

I do like the Divinity Original Sin games cery much (other than Sugar-Lips Habasi) and that is in part during the enviromental effects you can trigger during combat (and you will need to do so to win some of the fights). DoS 2 is a much better game and more accessible to Beginners than part 1, the stories are independent of one another. The first divinity games are indeed quite good - bau again, not tactical rpgs.

If you don't mind the reading and the dated engine, the Spiderweb games (Avernum, Avaddon, Geneforge etc.) are all good tactical rpgs, too
