Steam asking for CD-Key after building new computer on game restore on same account.

I have no clue what to do...

Re-downloading is going to take years, I'd back all these games up to an 8 tb hard drive. Built a new computer. Signed into the account I backed up the games on they all show up in my account. When trying to re-store my back up on the hard drive it asked for a CD-KEY and doesn't allow the restore what so ever?

So am I understand this right?

If I build a new computer I can only use back up on the computer it was backed up on?

I thought as, long as you used the same account the back ups where made you could use the saved data and restore your games.

I'm so lost, because I got these games from the Steam Store and I was never gave any type of CD-KEY.

I went though and check for CD-KEYS in my games and I don't even know where it could be being it doesn't show anything relating to keys for these games anywhere...

So am I just screwed at this point?

This makes me sick I just don't understand why this would happen.

Would anybody know how to fix this being I don't want to have to spend a year re downloading.

That indicates you're on a different account that does not own one or more games you are trying to restore.
Log back into the account you bought/activated those games on.

That can't be true I don't have any other accounts. I've only used this one. In my entire life of gaming on Steam I've only used this account. So this not possible because I don't have any other accounts. The only thing I can think of is a had some beta from Humble Bundle that wanted a key a long time ago. I can't remember what game it was but I didn't buy it I just let it go. If this beta was backed up somehow. Would this of corrupted my whole backup registry I created?

And i've stopped counting the cases where people said: "i have only one account, always had" and they were simply WRONG. It happens time and time and time again. At least once a month.

Make that "once a week" Sometimes more.
Also OP please be aware that you can have multiple accounts registered to the same email address.
They can even have the same display name and password.
Only the login name must be different.

I've only Logined into ONE Steam Account, I've ONLY Backed up games from ONE Steam account.

My other accounts ARE NOT Steam!!

EA Origin, Blizzard!!

I've only made one account for steam why would I have another account with the same list of games on another account? I think you're just trying to be a jerk for no reason!!!

I've only used One E-mail, One account. The only thing I've ever changed was my display name or password. Like if I would known you people troll others that needed help with a real issue I would of went else where. OMG...

We're not trolling you. Every day we see tens of people with the same problem. All of them claim they have only ever had one account blah blah blah.

Moreover your account is private so there is no real way for anyone to help you as we can't look at the account you're currently on.
