0 bytes/0 bytes
So this morning, when I turned on my computer and logged on to steam, I discovered that steam was attempting to download updates for a few games, but having trouble actually downloading said updates.

then I looked, and one of the updates says that it's steamworks common redistributables, all the updates say they are 0 bytes/0 bytes, they all hang on 'starting' for a few minutes at a time before another one takes its place, and I can't get steam to actually launch games, because it tries to insist on downloading everything first which, of course, it can't do.

Anyone experience this before? Anyone know how to fix it?

Edit: If it helps, I seem to also be having problems loading Steam webpages, like the store or forums, or seeing people's avatars instead of just a placeholder for a broken image.

In the client or your web browser?

Either way, post a screenshot of what they look like.

Have you tried other game downloads within Steam (not updates)?

In the mean time, clear your download cache on Steam and disable your anti-virus software if you use one.

Given the solution I found (using my phone as a mobile hotspot) I have a suspicion it might have something to do with my isp, or otherwise my connection.

Unfortunately, not something a simple restart would fix.
