Problem description:
- The Xbox One S controller is not showing up in the Bluetooth Add Device window.
Checks done:
- I have the Xbox One S controller:
- - on the box there is the bluetooth icon,
- - the plastic around the Xbox button is part of the main pad housing,
- - I can connect to my android phone over bluetooth, and it is working fine.
- Windows has the Anniversary Update (Version 1709).
- I can connect the controller over a micro USB cable and it is working fine.
- Controller Firmware update was done with the Xbox Accessories app in Windows (it was already up to date).
Solution:
- In Services, the "DeviceAssociationService" was disabled. I started the service. (In Hungarian Windows: "Eszköztársítási szolgáltatás".)
- Immediately after that: the controller was showing up in the bluetooth add device dialog, and the controller is working fine.
- If you doesn't experience any problems, you can set it to automatic start.
- By me this service blocks some WebDAV connection, and thus I left it disabled. The controller was still working fine once it was paired, also after computer restart.
I hope this helps some of you who have the same problems.
My solution was to go into Control Panel -> View Devices and Printers and right click -> remove device on all existing Xbox WIreless Controllers (I had just replaced it so my previous one was there, but the NEW controller was already there from when it kind-of-paired-but-not-really, which must have been why it wasn't showing up as a new device. right click -> removed that one and my controller instantly showed up in the Bluetooth search results.
Also, it seems to be interfering with other bluetooth devices, because when I turn on the controller, the distant devices stop showing up.
On Win10, go to Bluetooth Settings & Devices>Add a device>Bluetooth and I found my controller.
This is confusing, because on the Add a device screen, there is a choice that says Everything Else for Xbox Controllers with wireless, but it will not work if you're using the Bluetooth Xbox controller.
Makes absolutely no sense when you go to add a device that you're supposed to choose 'Bluetooth' when the third option on the page actually lists Xbox controllers by name.. Anyway, got it working.
