Steam Hardware Video Decoding
Hi, I am running Windows 10 PRO, with an Intel i7 6850K 3.6 GHZ (turbo boost to 3.8) processor, 64 gb of RAM, and an Nvidia GTX 1080 8GB RAM video card with a 3840x2160 4K Screen. I was wondering if I should enable Hardware Video Decoding in the Steam client settings? Would I see any benefits from this in games?

Also, will the fact that Steam recognizes my display as 2560x1440 affect the resolution in the games themselves? I noticed when I lower the Windows scaling to 100% (I am running at 150%) that it accurately recognizes my resolution in the Hardware Checker.

Thank you for your help!

The video decoding most likely has to do with the GPU helping with store videos and the like, theres no reason not to enable it as there is no performance impact. But no, it has no effect in games.

As for the display, Steam isnt really updated to detect the latest hardware n what not so its not surprising, but no, it isnt an issue at all.

Np..

And to add, it probably has to do with Streaming on Steam as well.

If Hardware encoding isnt enabled then it uses software encoding, which isnt as good.
So theres a few things it can affect.
