Help: Steam registry path is not currently writable
I keep getting this Steam error message while trying to install Steam on a new Windows 10 PC--I can choose to ignore or repair, but repair doesn't do anything, just loops back to the same error message. I tried disabling my antivirus and firewall. Any suggestions on what to do?

I have The same problem, and i am on a school comuter with no access to admin. In fact, steam is installed in a folder on my desktop, bc i cant get t installed in Program files bc my school district is stupid and wont let kids install stuff. Ive tried turnong off read only on some of the folders, and that didnt seem to work.

Permission settings for a PC at your school are set that way for obvious reasons. This is not a Steam issue. Take it up with your school's IT admin.

:qr:
It does need admin permission for some reason, although you can switch to "Big Picture Mode" (a wii-like version of steam) right next to your minimize button, might be a little performance consuming at first though. ofc I am a non-admin so I guarantee it works, just halfly.
