GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB) with Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q9300

Hi, my friend has a Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q9300 and a GTs 240 and he wants to buy a new GPU (GeForce GTX 1060 ). Does he need a better CPU in order to use the 1060 ? Does the CPU matter when buying a GPU ?

yes you have to have a better CPU because if you buy the GPU now than you are not going to get the full performance out of it

Well it does matter in the sense that the CPU will bottleneck the performance of the GPU because its too slow.
You will still get a big performance boost but you will lose around 30% or so of the maximum performance of the GPU since your CPU wont be able to keep up.
He really should upgrade to an i5 or something similar if he wants to use the full potential of his new card.
