My computer is dead. Upon changing to a new machine, do I keep all my game progress?
I know that there is steam cloud, but I don't know how it works, or if I had it activated before my computer stopped working. I am told, that we will either have to factory reset, or get a new machine. Both these options involve deleting all my local files. My question is, on the new one do I keep the progress? PLEASE HELP

Games that use the cloud have it enabled by default. Assuming you, or someone with access to your account, haven't disabled it you shouldn't need to do anything to recover your saved games.

If your hard drive still works, you can take it out and hook it with another computer and retrieve your files before you factory reset your computer. If you are not sure how to do so, there are some videos on youtube on how to take out hard drives in laptops or desktops (obviously you will need a desktop to hook the hard drive to since laptops only support one hard drive). If you can't figure out how to, just reply to me and I'll explain it.

thank you. But as for game progress, will everything be stored in the Steam Cloud? So if I have to get a new laptop, or have to reset my existing one, as soon as I reinstall Steam and access my account, will I be able to access all of my games and the progress I had on each one? Thank you

If they are stored on the cloud you can download your save games. If they are stored locally (aka your hard drive) then you will have to retrieve them the way I mentioned before.
