What's RiftCat and what do you mean by "allowed on Steam"?
Riftcat is a software that lets you use your mobile VR headset as a PC VR headset by streaming and emulating the SteamVR apps and so on, something like that, my explanation sucks.
I am asking becuase I think thats counts as unauthorized hardware.
How does unauthorized hardware matters to Steam?
I don't know if it does, that's what I am asking, that article on their site made me worried a little bit because I don't get why they would list that question in their FAQ https://support.riftcat.com/hc/en-us/articles/207264349-Is-this-legal-

You're mixing things up here, this FAQ is unrelated to Steam. Like at all.
I know lol, but this faq made me think if steam has any problem with users using the said software.

So should I be able to use this software on steam and steam vr games without worrying and without a risk of a ban for whatever reason? I just never used external softwares that communicte with steam so I want to make sure that I am not doing anything wrong.
You should not expect it to work. Steam VR and the games are expecting a particular API on the other side, if RiftCat doesn't provide that API, it won't work.

Yes, fully legal. We implemented VRidge by using Valve's publicly available OpenVR/SteamVR API.

We communicated with Valve devs and there was even an SteamVR update to fix Rifcat/VRidge compatibility when it broke down (link - ctrl + f: vridge).

You are not getting Steam banned for using VRidge. SteamVR is open to any HMDs.

Wow, that's cool. Thank you.
Too bad I won't be able to experience it though because turns out I am out of the IPD range for the Gear VR and things are too blurry for me, hehe.
