GTA V download stuck at 15.9GB
Hi all

Anyone experience this yet? I bought GTA V a while back at the black friday sale. The game downloads perfectly fine until 15.9GB, then it only has little spikes of downloading that immediatly steps down to 0KB/s, until it deqeues itself for a minute or two then starts the pattern again.

I have tried to change the download region to multiple regions, removed the already downloaded files and started from scratch. All other games download just fine to the same HDD, so I doubt it is the disk?

I thought perhaps it is just server issues that will be fixed eventually but it has been far too long and it still does the same thing. I installed the rockstar social club installer that gets downloaded with the steam version, upon which it jumped to full speed for a few seconds then got stuck again.

I saw the same thing with Skyrim special edition but after a few days the download started working again. But alas this time it is not happening for me.

Anyone seen something similar and fixed it?

Any help is appreciated.

Hey guys, I found a solution to my problem, I tethered my phone and used mobile data to download a few KBs and then switched back to ADSL and now it is continuing. So add that to solution trouble shooting. Thanks for all the help
Hmmmm..that suggests an issue still with your network configuration there still of course.

Have you tried this ?

For Windows 8 and 10:
1) Press Windows key + X
2) Choose Command Prompt and make sure to run as administrator
3) Type "netsh winsock reset" (without the quotes).
4) Press Enter, close out of the command prompt and restart your computer.

For Windows Vista and 7:
1) Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories
2) Right-click on Command Prompt and click Run as administrator.
3) Type "netsh winsock reset" (without the quotes).
4) Press Enter, close out of the command prompt and restart your computer.
It is not necessary for me to do that, it is downloading flawlessly now. If it gets stuck again then I shall try that though. Thanks

I changed the d/l region to Netherlands (NEDERLAND), restarted Steam and download is now proceeding, in fact the downloads are much faster than using local South African Steam servers.

I'm also from South Africa and had the same issue being stuck on 15.9 gb. Spent the whole day with different ways to get it to work. Finally came across a program called TCPVIEW which shows you all your TCP connections. With TCPView open and when it is trying to download you will see a few connections for Steam.exe. All you need to do is right click on the connections and 'close connection'. This forces Steam to reconnect to a new update server. I had to do it a few times and at one state highlighted all steam connections at once and closed them all. All of a sudden it was fixed.

Link to TCPView:

Hope it can assist others with this same issue.

I simply changed download location to Netherlands and problem fixed, my downloads are also much faster than using South African Steam location.

I too managed to solve this problem by tethering my phone and downloading a small amount via a different connection/ISP.

My ADSL data is provided by Afrihost and it looks like some server (cortrels.net.afrihost.co.za) of theirs is what causes the problem. Or at least thats what it looked like for me.

I suspect changing your download region forces steam to bypass the local caching servers and thus bypassing some problem.

Possible steps to bypass this problem if you aren't able to tether to download a smidge would be:
1) change download region
2) restart steam
3) restart computer
4) restart router/modem
This will hopefully re-assign IP addresses and flush dns cache.

Changed my region to netherlands as well, still not working, i'm a bit over it so I have taken to other games in the meantime. Thanks to steam sales i have more games I could probably ever play :/ best to get to that I guess.

But thanks for the post :)
