As described in title, i can't return to previous page in steam client by hitting backspace, clicking on arrow works. I noticed it started last few days.

That's not really a common way to browse to previous page. You also didn't mention that backspace works when correcting mistakes. Just make it clear that the app is to blame, not a dead key. And if that's the case.. Are you using Steam Beta? If yes, please submit this as a bug report in the steam beta forums.

Don't you have extra mouse buttons (Mouse4/Mouse5) to navigate back and forth?

backspace key is normally working also in chat and everything only returning to previous page doesn't work, it's strange because not many days ago i didn't have this problem.

yes i have the buttons on mouse, but they're little uncomfortably placed, so i don't really use them

no i don't participate in beta releases

It seems that several of us have got this issue, where we cannot navigate back in pages with backspace on Steam. I'm not sure if this is a temporary issue or a permanent change. I suspect it's temporary as not all of us have got this issue.

Backspace is an antiquated shortcut that is slowly being phased out of mainstream browsers. It disappeared from Google Chrome earlier this year and it was inevitable Steam would follow (like Chrome, the Steam browser is based on webkit). Alt + left and right arrow keys are the mainstream standard for going back and forward in a browser, and presumably works with Steam.

Fortunately this is not true. Google Chrome assumed that backspace was undesired and removed the feature which caused a huge uproar of Chrome users to want the backspace key back. Some changed browser entirely, some demanded an extention to be added to enable backspace.

There are quite a few extensions available at Google web store to download the backspace navigation plugin, which many are using.

Very few have ever argued that 'alt+left arrow' is a convenient way of navigating back as it requires two keys to be pressed let alone they're too far apart. The reason why backspace was removed in Chrome was due to people accidentally going back a page when meaning to erase something in a text field. This issue is not common in Steam though.

I can't believe they actually removed this from the Steam client. This is HUGE for anyone who uses a laptop at all. This will legitimately make me not want to browse the store and community pages anymore, unless it's through my default browser.

I use a Lenovo keyboard for the Trackpoint, which means my "mouse" buttons are the ones on the keyboard (left, middle, and right). As pointed out, Alt+Left/Right arrow is not convenient. Hitting backspace is very fast and easy, and is what I do in my web browser (Pale Moon) all the time, as well as Windows Explorer. I'm constantly hitting it in Steam, at least several times a day on days that I use it, and it's extremely annoying that it doesn't work, in normal or beta.

Backspace is in my dna, after many years with other browsers than Chrome. I don't really see a reason not to let it live along with Alt + Arrow.
