SUDDEN FPS DROP | Nvidia Geforce GTX 950 | Help Pls :(
A couple of months ago, this computer could ran csgo at a steady 180-250 occasionally 300FPS. Since then, I have downloaded various other games like rocket league and World of Warcraft. I looked into seeing if it was a space problem only to see I still had so much room on my 8GB of ram. I also do not have any viruses with the help of a malware scan.

Here are my computer specs:
AMD FX(tm)-4300 Quard core Processor 3.80GHz
8.00GB of ram (2x4GB)
64 Bit operating system
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950 Graphics card
Windows 10 (Never been a fan, would going to windows 7 help maybe o_O?)

Here are my CSGO settings:
http://prntscr.com/dk4clt

Launch settings:
-novid -threads 4 +fps_max 999 -dxlevel90 -console -refresh 144 -freq 144-nosplash -tickrate 128 -high

1. I have tried upgrading to 16GB of ram little did I know the chips were not compatible.

2. Changing the HDMI ports of my monitors (144hz Dual monitors)

3. Unplugging 1 monitor

4. Downgrading and Updating to the latest NVIDIA Drivers (w/ geforce experience)

Note: One thing I did notice is when I used shadowplay, for those who are familiar with it, when it showed the recording overlays it would make my fps drop to what it is now. When I switched shadowplay off, it went to the normal 200+fps. Then I updated my drivers and the geforce experience as well as shadowplay is completely different and I think there is a setting that is checked that is causing the FPS drops. I have however uninstalled geforce experience to see if it was the problem and still no change.

5. VSync off on NVIDIA and CSGO

6. Power settings in NVIDIA's control panel set to maximum performance

7. Uninstalling drivers completely

8. Task manager high performance on CSGO

Weirdly enough, none of these even increased my FPS. Even if I wasn't getting the fps I used to, I would think doing all of these things would increase my FPS bert nope.

I've literally tried everything and have searched multiple forums on other peoples problems on this.

Let me know if there is any information I am missing or what else I can do to fix this problem. I know my graphics card capability so I know that there is an issue and it's not just a bad card. But if it comes down to it, I will upgrade the graphics card worst case scenerio. If anyone can help me with this issue, you would be a lifesaver.

Thanks in advanced ^,^

  • HDMI does not support 1080p @ 144 Hz (maximum is 1440x900 @ 144 Hz)
  • Monitor your CPU temperature and frequency while playing using CoreTemp
  • Do the same for your GPU using GPUTemp
Correct BIOS settings for AMD FX-4300:
  • Frequency: 4000 MHz
  • Voltage: 1.4125V
  • NB Frequency: 2000.00 MHz
Also, check whether your RAM settings have been set properly in your BIOS:
  • 1600 MHz = DDR3 800 MHz
  • 1333 MHz = DDR3 667 MHz
  • 800 MHz = DDR3 400 MHz

So I installed both softwares to monitor my GPU and CPU and they seem to be running just fine.

How exactly do I check what my RAM settings are as well as my BIOS settings?

Also, the monitor with 144hz is not an hdmi cable, my mistake. It currently runs on 144hz.

One last thing is I noticed when I changed my CSGO in game settings from all HIGH to all LOW, literally nothing changed in my FPS. This makes me think something is capping my fps. It is staying at 80-120fps..

Thanks in advance

Then it's a CPU/RAM related issue. To check your BIOS settings you need to enter it on startup by pressing a key (usually DEL or F2), check your motherboard manual.
