Locked at 1.2 mbps ? PLEASE HELP

Hello. I just got fiber and I currently have the best one on the market if Im right, I have 1 Gbps which is 1000 mbps if Im right? but It's capped at 1.2 mbps when I download on steam etc. I had exact the same internet speed before I got fiber installed to our house. even my friend who had a LAN at the same internet as me got 1.7 mbps (before we had fiber) and I only had 1.2 mb. and I still have the same now after I got one of the fastest internet speed in the world. I currently got a z170-A motherboard and I have the latest LAN drives for it and it's still capped at 1.2. Please help!! Any sollutions?

be sure that you are in mbps and not in mb/s, steam download can be set differently, also, you might have capped your download speed in the download tab in the setting

no. I have always had it on "unlimited in the download speed.

The thing is that It shows 10 up and 10 down on speedtest since it cant handle more...

by that I mean even if I have 1 gbps it wont show on speedtest.net unless my MOBO will handle it. if I go to the network settings it says I have 1 GBPS network speed.

well your speed is 10mbps and not 1 000 mbps.

1.2mb/s is about 10 mbps

Speed test can handle significantly more than 10 Mb (or MB) for that matter. My speed for example is 112.34 Mb. Something is definitely wrong if you are only getting 10 megabits on SpeedTest, however that is consistent with Steam, as 10 megabits is 1.25 megabytes.

I would contact your ISP and ask why you are receiving such low speeds.

no thats no the case.. on my mothers laptop she has 60 mb up and 60 down.-. and we use the same internet

That is the maximum speed your ethernet card supports, not the speed your ISP provides.

and I only have 10 up and 10 down.. since my motherboard only can handle that much.. My friend who was on a LAN party a week before I got fiber installed to my house he was downloading 1.7 mb/s and I had 1.2mb/s and it was on my internet.. so it's not the internetproblem, it's my MOBO I think.

that is the speed of your internet cars, it can be 51634384684586456484 gb/p, but if you have a 1.2mb/s conection, you will download at 1.2 mb/s.

You have something wrong between you and isp. did you upgraded the router also ? are you sure the contract won't start until the first day of the next month, might be delayed by few day.

ok. so do I have to get a better NetworkCard then? instead of using the one thats built in my MOBO?

then go in your bios and try to see if you can change your setting, if you can't try to see with your driver if they are capped, you look to have a motherboard with auto optimisation , it might be the problem
