Library folder not writable error while updating games?

Has anyone else had this problem, it just started for me on December 12th and I looked it up and have seen nothing else except for 1 person on reddit who had my problem but no solution. There is also nothing on steam support about it and I have even called the steam support phone number and have gotten nothing. Can someone please help me??? The problem happens when an update for a game pauses and when i try to unpause it it either won't unpause or when I press play to get it to start updating it shows up with an error like "There was an error updating Terraria (library folder not writable)" and shows the destination of my steamapps folder

already discovered the problem... go to the steamapps folder, right click it, go to properties, uncheck the read-only box, click apply, apply it to all files in that folder and it'll work.

I've been getting this error lately.

For years I've gotten another one that says disk write error. checking the files fixes it so I can play. But the error repeats and I have do it over and over.

for years steams has me updating the same files over and over and over again each day.

But problem is when i make apply it say Access is denial

sorry where do i find this do mean in the file itself?

I'm having the same problem as MR.BIG right now, every time I try updating / downloading a game it says library folder not writable and I cannot change any permissions as when I try to it says "You will need to provide administrator permission to change these attributes" and options are continue and cancel whenever i click continue it says "An error occurred applying attributes to the file : (whatever the file is ) *access is denied* , help would be greatly appreciated, tried everything. Nothing is working. Thanks in advance.

I had problems with the EA game Stranded Deep. "library folder..." blah blah. I reinstalled it then had problems within the game. It couldn't create a new world. "access denied" error within the game listing where the problem was. So I went to the folder and there's one folder inside. I unchecked read only on just it and it fixed the problem. I plan to try this with the next thing that shows up. wondering if we need to uncheck read only on all the files within the folder. I believe the main folders themselves are supposed to be read only. But when steam updates the games maybe it can't replace/updates files that need that...?

@tom, agreed. the frustration here is ridiculous. steam could help. could. like right now. steam?

Well, after all of that I just decided to reset my PC. It worked. I don't know how it makes sense, but it worked. gg valve

It work for me too after I reset the drive but the questione is will the problem return?

Make Steam transparent to the anti-virus... that will resolve problems.
