But your headset is using USB + Sennheiser software, so I wouldn't worry about that.
If the game supports 7.1 , you can use this 7.1 headset.
Just a guess.. Is this about the latest CSGO update that includes 7.1 support?
If so, don't worry about it.
So.. Yeah, since it's just a simple USB connection, you're able to use this hardware if the software you're using is supporting 7.1 (Games and any other applications)
Edit: Don't listen to ⊹ Gh0st4™ ツ, he didn't do his research..
When you have the headset you will know what I am talking about.
You might wondering why not surround sound in CS GO
You are using a headset.
You have 2 speakers in that headset.
5.1 (or 7.1) is meant to have 4 (or more) speakers + a sub and a center channel.
The game setting thinks this is what you have at your place.
Your headset does not have this.
There is emulated surround which will take already accurate direction and re-place it towards a virtual or simulated speaker location.
These emulated locations need to be set up 100% perfectly to get accurate direction. 5.1 requires much more processing and can lag. Virtual surround CAN work for games where you would like a cinematic feel, like Skyrim or Fallout.
For a game that directional accuracy means a kill or death, you do not want to add to the "atmosphere". The sound quality also gets degraded by effects like echo, dither and not to mention the forced "speaker delay".
Set CSGO to Headphones mode. Headphones Mode is software the game creating a 3D landscape in a stereo environment. Virtual surround is software creating a 3D landscape in a stereo environment.
You can try to lower your sound buffer with snd_mixahead, but you might get some stutter.
Check out the offical blog.counter-strike.net:
Made headphones the default sound option instead of two-speaker. (If playing with headphones or sound cards with virtual 5.1/7.1 enabled, make sure 5.1 is selected in the CSGO audio settings menu instead.)
