Xbox controller crashes Steam
I don't really know if this is the forum for this but I don't know where else to try it. Every time I've plugged my wired controller in today Steam has just immediately crashed. It's not a new controller, and it worked fine when I used it like three days ago.

What could possibly be causing it, and how can I fix it? I've tried restarting my computer, and it didn't help.

The last Beta Update of steam have a problem with all Controllers not only the XBOX360. It don't start if they pluged in and it crash if you plug them in again

So it's an update problem then, alright. I guess the answer to this problem is pateince then.

Or you quit the Beta participation in the steam settings until they fix it

Or just don't use the Steam Beta client and use the regular client? (there should be an opt-out option) Either way, good luck. My Xbox360 and Xbone controllers work fine with my Steam (regular client since I learned a while back that Beta is just a bit too unstable for regular use for me)

Haha. Shona beat me :P

I didn't even realize I was in a beta at all, that might explain some things. I'll do that.

The advice for opting out of the beta worked for me, so I recommend trying that.

I don't mean to bump an old thread, but I started getting this exact same problem about a month ago (after successfully using the same controller for at least a year), and seeing that I play Rocket League nearly daily, this is a pretty crushing blow. Drivers and everything up to date, and I'm not part of the Steam Beta program. I've tried multiple controllers, and it wasn't a hardware issue in the past from previous threads I've read. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you find a solution to this? I have the same issue. All controllers are suddenly causing Steam games to crash/freeze my pc on startup. If I load a game without a controller plugged in it starts fine.

Nope. Haven't had it in about a week, but this has been ongoing for me (on and off) for almost a year now.
