Vile and Toxic comments on Steam Forums
The Steam forums of recently released AAA games seem to be filled with vile and toxicity. People insulting one another, making threats, or making fun of others. Is there no moderation?

Where are you talking about?

Individual game forums are up to the game devs to moderate.
You haven't seen anything until you've been on the Garry's mod forums

That's a funny way of spelling the Mount & Blade: Warband forums. ;)

Anyway, game devs select their own mods, and community mods rarely seem to go there,

Report any threads that violate the rules

The warband forums isn't that bad, i took the liberty of reading a couple of threads in the Garrys Mod forum too and that wasn't as bad as i expected

The people aren't bad, but the lack of mods has lead to some interesting threads.

You should've been there during the 15th Humans vs Bots days.

To be honest the CSGO forum is by far the worst sub forum on steam, it is incredibly caustic and is being flooded with scam sites, I just checked it now and within just a few minutes i had reported several threads. Whether or not it'll be read I'm really unsure as moderation seem to be non existing over there

I think that's just popularity. More people posting = more trolls posting.

If I remember correctly, I think the Dota2 forums were in a similar boat.

Well i think I can safely say the CS community is officially one of if not THE worst gaming communities on the Internet, and few would dispute that

All game forums are toxic.

What does everyone think of having some sort of "reputation" vote/meter in which users could up-vote or down-vote? Would this help to "clean" up the Steam forums?

No, this would magnify the trollness and move a cancerous forum from stage I to stage IV instantly.

You think so? If it was designed to detect a user's IP/account from spamming the vote button, it would be feasable.

Example: 1 vote per user, per comment.

I know so. It was implemented long ago and was abused and disastrous. Thus, removed.

Unless you're also proposing some form of penalty for poor reputation, it would only impact users who care about a good reputation and those users tend towards good behavior anyways. Adding in penalties would require some form of oversight/review to prevent abuse by a large group of jerks trolling decent people.
