Is DRM for Steam Games on Hyper-V guest VM going to rule my solution out?
I am running Steam on a Windows 10 64-bit Hyper-V guest VM, passing though an AMD Firepro W7000 via DDA from the host (Windows Server 2016 Datacenter).

I don't play a lot of games, more of a break from serious learning really. My setup is hardly normal - still, I can stream Portal 2 to Steam Link at 1080p 60fps without breaking a sweat so it suits me fine.

The only other game I own is Crysis 3 from Origin, which I have managed to add as a non-Steam game OK following some guides - this is where my question starts really.

The EA game fails to start, with a "This cannot be run in a virtual machine" message. My research suggests that this is a DRM/ anti-piracy measure and that there's nothing that can be done - I can live with that, I'm not willing to hack about to get a £10 game running. Crysis 3 DID work in an VMWare ESXi VM with the GPU passed through and I see config changes can be made to VMWare or VirtualBox machine files to get round it if it does occur. Hyper-V 2016 is a different fish entirely though, configs in this version are binaries not text files.

So, how common is this restriction on running games in VMs?

If I were to buy a really modern game, Dishonored 2 or Infinite Warfare for instance, am I going to hit the same problem or is it only Origin that do it?

Update edit:

I'll start a list, though think my use case is pretty edge so don't expect regular updates!

Working:

Portal 2
Dishonored 1
Witcher 3
Doom 2016

Not Working:

Crysis 3 (non-Steam)

Ultimately it depends on the game and how the DRM functions

Thought as much - a list would be too easy!
