Missing Icons since upgrading to Win10
So all shortcut items of previously downloaded games are missing their icons.

I believe Clientregistry.blob was removed, so can't find that.

I KNOW that if you verify the integrity of the games cache the icon should reapear which is does, mostly.

After upgrading to win10 back when it was free, all the icons to my games were missing, I had issues with my cat so never found the time. Now she passed away I want to fix this. I actually uninstalled every game in steam because I was fed up of having so many for scanners (no SSD)

Problem is, I got a lot of games, and don't want to do this every time I download one. I noticed with a couple games it wasn't even permanent.

What's the best way around this? Having to reinstall steam again?

So even if you install a new game and check the "create desktop icon" box it still don't create an icon?

Yup.

Also forgot to mention I've deleted the iconcache.db.
Try a fresh install of Steam
You don't need to download all the games again.
After the installation simply select your old download folder of games and it will automatically recognize all the games.

Yeah, I did but now I do need to reinstall the games again, which is strange...I'm using the same folder but when I click on the icons it says to install rather than play.

It doesn't matter as I deleted them all anyway so only had 11 installed
If you try to download them again it should be able to recognize them and only download missing files.
Then it will only do a check.
Did it other times on mine and other PCs and it worked like that

If not the problem is more strange than I thought

Nope, just finished downloading one that previously had no icon.

Still no icon.

I used IObit to uninstall, which is why I think the games went with it but hasn't fixed anything.
This happens only with steam games or even with other programs/games outside of it?

Well, I had two folders, because I like a clean desktop :p

My 2TB drive was full so I basically just unsinstalled everything (could have done a fresh install on windows but that would have been even more hassle)

Both programs and games had 80% or so of their icons missing. With games the vast majority were steam, other launchers such as Blizzards, Uplay, Origin etc were fine.

The icon link does still say it's steam://rungameid/xxxxx though.

Something strange just happened, I moved the icon from desktop into the game folder and it appeared. (I know that didn't happen before though) but going right onto the desktop they are blank.

So if you go to the proprieties of the icon it gives you that url with numbers instead of "xxxxx" right?

yes of course. I just put xxxx because each game is different.
Just made a small search
It seems it's a popular problem (the blank icons).
Some people simply killed explorer.exe and started it again and it was solved.
Others had to put manually the icon.
But form what I see there isn't a correct fix

Yeah I tried to search but everything I got was old stuff, or common stuff which I already knew. I didn't delve into it too much as I wanted to post here first for more upto date information. I'd been gaming on my console for a year just so I could be with my cat, then decided to get the steam link when it was on bundle sale and she passed so I'm trying to keep my mind occupied while at the same time, I just can't be arsed to do anything.
Don't worry mate :)
We are here to try to help each other if possible ^^
Hope someone here could give you a better or more update tip!
In the meantime if you have the Steam Link you can always use the BigPicture mode :D

Yeah, I got a little excited for 5 minutes when it came.

Then remembered my first world problem of looking through my backlist of games and unable to decide what to play. I did try cities skyline but gave up quickly as I found the controls so fiddly and having very little patience atm I haven't bothered to customise it yet.
