need to upgrade PC without losing games and mods
hi everyone.

I need to upgrade CPU (3770 => 6700), mobo and ram in my pc (windows 10).

Or i could say i have to move my PSU, GPU and second SSD (with steam and steam games installed) to a new pc

So i think i'll have to reinstall windows...but i have a heavily modded skyrim and other games i don't want to lose :( (last time i reinstalled skyrim took me a week :( ).

Don't care much about savegames.

Is there a way to make the new Windows instalation to see my second SSD with steam and everything installed?
And if yes can i move it back to old pc in case of problems?

I tried to search this site and found contradicting answers (some said reinstalling steam it doesn t delete your old game and see old games other says it does).

Thank you a lot

Don't need to reinstall.

you can update everything but the motherboard without a problem. the processor has to be the same version/same amount of pins if useing the same motherboard.

once you have a different motherboard, your are considered to have a new system.. and should start from scratch because of motherboard drivers usb/sound/processor.

you can transfer the games.. but dont forget the required software that gets installed only on a games intial install...directx/microsoft c++ etc.

and you will have to delete the old game system settings files for each game so the game reconfigures with the new motherboard drivers.

its not easy, but it can be done.

now with the internet providers tracking/chargeing for the amount of data being downloaded, I can see why people try the transfer thing first.

I have personally always started from scratch with a new system, its easiest for stable system and game play (PS. you will also need to install a new operateing system windows 10 etc. you can not use the one on drive from the old system)

and dont forget you only have to download the game you intend to play at the moment. times have changed.

ps. I found my motherboard (asus sabertooth x79) chipset drivers have changed over the last couple months with new windows 10 supported versions..

also I start with a new drive to install the new operateing system on when makeing a new system.. then have old drive installed to transfer things over.

do not forget to backup your games with a ap like gamesave manager...before moveing drive to the new system

heres there link if interested. http://www.gamesave-manager.com/
