AVG antivirus and Steam
Steam may not start because of an antivirus program.

User have to put Steam folder link to exceptions to be able to open Steam. Otherwise the Steam client may not start at all. At the AVG antivirus client you need to tell Steam path as exception.

This propably is not be the best solution because if there is virus at Steam service or at the Steam folder AVG ingnores Steam path totally. Go to menu-settings-general-exceptions page. Add Steam path.

Do not put the link exception to the menu-settings-Software analyzer-customize-Exceptions because that is what AVG scans for to find viruses.

Anyway, the Steam client works now at my computer.

A new antivirus version has new troubles..., so I have to update my previous message.

Well, my first orders were concerning one type of AVG only. I have updated to new version and I started to get again between antivirus program and Steam. My current AVG is the version 17.7.3032 and it seems to behave differently than previous one. I needed to give more rights to this version until I got Steam to work.

Temporary disabling did not work with my latest version because there was some antivirus programs still running. General exception was not enough in this case case although it used to work previously. I changed attributes at Components too. There are File Shield and Behaviour Shield where I told to release Steam.

I hacked these three:

General exception
File Shield exception
Behaviour Shield exception

Conclusion is that with different versions the blocking methods are different and one advice may not work with the other antivirus type.

Generally speaking there should be checked two things. You may want to run Steam as an administrator and you have to check if some kind of antivirus is blocking Steam services.

Now MY Steam is up and running but I cannot guarantee that all other users are as lucky as me.

More experiences at 12.10.2017...

Lately all those advices about exceptions have not helped but Steam starts if I temporaly turn off AVG. Then I am able to open Steam and update games.

In case that somebody has better ideas with AVG, send me a note, please. ;)
