Mad Catz RAT 9 Drivers not installing for some. Possible Fix!
Finally I found a way how to install Mad Catz RAT 9 Drivers which were causing so many problems for some when trying to install. (This may work for some of their other gaming mice such as the RAT 7)

When installing Mad Catz RAT 9 Drivers, some may encounter a problem where the driver installation program will "STOP" at the point it asks you to plug in the Mouse via its USB connection (Wireless receiver USB connection in the case of the RAT 9 gaming mouse). However despite plugging in the Mouse's USB connection to the computer, the installation is unable to continue because the 'NEXT' button remains ghosted-out and the User is unable to click the 'Next' button. So the installation is perpetually stuck and neither progresses nor completes. Grrrrr.....!

This problem could possibly be down to an unsigned driver issue, however there is no warning nor any dialog box giving advice of this and I was not keen using the system restart method for disabling the unsigned driver check especially as I have BitLocker enabled which would require additional procedures of authorization codes.

More confusingly, I was able to install the very same Mad Catz Drivers and the seperate Mad Catz Software on my previous two gaming laptops (Aorus X7 DT V6 CF1 and the X7 Pro V3 before that) without issue. However not the case on my current laptop hybrid and although the current computer is not a gaming laptop, they all had Windows 10 64bit installed so I'm not sure whats going on.

Using Windows compatability setting appeared to have no effect.

If you plug the mouse in from the start without trying to install Mad Catz Drivers, then Windows does set up the device with it's own generic drivers and the mouse itself does appear to function without issue. However the problem here is that Windows is no happy with it as because Windows will ocassionally complain from time to time that a Device is not recognised and as far as I'm aware, it's complaining about the mouse. Further more, although the mouse itself appears to function, it sadly appears to upset some other devices (especially if on a USB Hub) and unless mistaken it appears to affect the performance of some (not all) programs.

My workaround seems to be as follows:-

1. Plug in the RAT 9 Mouse (Receiver USB connection) to the computer and let Windows install it's generic drivers.

2. Install the Mad Catz Drivers to a point (not the software, at least not yet). I say "to a point" because you'll only be going as far as when it asks for you to plug in the Mouse and then simply close the program by clicking on the cross in the top right-hand corner of the dialog window.

3. Open Controll Panel > Harware & Sound and then click on the Device Manager

4. You may already see that Widnows has the "Mice & Other Pointing Devices" already expanded if it is unhappy with the Mad Catz Mouse, if not expand it.

5. Double click on the Mad Catz RAT 9 HID device and then click on the Driver tab and then click "Update Driver". Click Browse for drivers on my computer and then click Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.

6. Make sure "Show compatible hardware" is ticked and then choose a relevant device listed. You should choose one that refers as closely as possible to the Mad Catz Mouse. CLick on one to highlight it and then click on "Have Disk". Now click Browse and were going to navigate to where the coresponding and required .inf file is. The .inf file and all corresponding driver files would have been copied over to the Windows temporary folder from when the Driver installation was run previously and despite closing the program when it got stuck, the driver files should have been successefully copied to this temporary location... Now navigate to or something very similar to :-

C:\Windows\Temp\MadCatz\RAT_9_Mouse_7_0_45_2_x64_Drivers\Inf\RAT_9_Mouse_MadCatz_1709_DPI_6400

in this folder you should see a HID and USB related ".inf" file. I chose the USB referenced ".inf" file and it worked for me as it proceded to install and finalised installation of the mouse drivers. Note: when you navigate as far as the "MadCatz" directory folder you may see three different variations of the RAT 9 Mouse which had been previously manufactured and sold under the name of Cyborg, therefore there are two previous Cyborg model folders and the final Mad Catz version so pick the appropriate.

Lastly this is only a guid as I may have missed a few things.

If like me you have already attempted to install the Mad Catz Drivers, then you are going to have to Uninstall them fully in order to allow Windows to install the Mouse first with it's own Generic drivers. This is important for giving you the means to be able to update the drivers of the already installed RAT 9 mouse in order so that you have the ability to reach the "Have Disk" stage. So uninstall the drivers for the mouse by going to the Device Manager and then Uninstall the device making sure you click the check-box option to delete the drivers as well (don't worry as the Driver files previously copied over to the Windows temporary folder should still be there). Then go to step 1.

I hope the above may help some.

I see your post is old, but I hope you are still on Steam. I was hysterical that my R.A.T no longer worked after updating my BIOS and reinstalling Windows. I had tried everything - nothing worked! Until I found your post. A gahzillion thank yous! I hope you don't mind if I refer others to it in the future!

Mad catz is back under new management. they do not support old mad catz products but they do supply the latest drivers and software available at the time the old company went bust. check out their website.

FYI, I am using the drivers and software for a rat 7 and a strike 7 keyboard on windows 10 64b and they are trouble free.

Hope this helps - a link for Mad Catz RAT 9 Drivers and Utility Software that's no longer available from the newly reformed Mad Catz company and website (let me know if link breaks/disappears).

Softpedia - this appears to be Utility software and built in drivers. For those whom prefer just the driver 'only' for the RAT 9 (like myself) I've provided a shared link at the bottom which has everything:-

https://drivers.softpedia.com/get/KEYBOARD-and-MOUSE/Mad-Catz/Mad-Catz-RAT-9-Mouse-Driver-Utility-70452-64-bit.shtml

My shared OneDrive link which also includes older versions within the Archive folder. I recommend drivers/software in root folder, however the Archived ones are there just in case. (note: at first the download doesn't appear to progress, this is OneDrive/Windows scanning the files and then compressing them before downloading them. Just be patient):-

I've recently upgraded my gaming laptop a couple of times since the original post and tbh I've just gone along with Windows installing it's own generic drivers. I do lose the ability however to custom set my own DPI values, as well as the Sniper Button function and other stuff. However some default generic value is set to the -/+ DPI switch by Windows which I'm comfortable with and as good as the Sniper Button is for hardcore Sniper fans, I tend to always play as Engineer on one of my favourite games BF3 Multiplayer ( https://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/soldier/xX-Star1child-Xx/stats/314740573/pc/ ), so I have no great need for it yet. Also the side mounted rotary-wheel takes a hit to as it seems to have no function with Windows generic drivers, however the two left-side shoulder buttons appear to be configurable within some games. The scaling of the mouse movement however is superb with no accelerated 1:1 movement.

I will probably install the dedicated drivers and Utility software at some point in the future, if I start using the Sniper class within BF3 multiplayer.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING. After days of searching, installing 3 different driver versions and tons of pulling out my hair, your post gave me enough hope that I finally got my mouse working again. While I didn't follow your method exactly I did manage to poke around with my setup enough to get the drivers installed. I was also having the ghosted out "next" button even on Windows 7 trying to load drivers for my Office R.A.T. wireless mouse. Going through the files and manually installing the driver by ignoring the windows warning worked. Now I have full use of all of my programable buttons again.

edit: Oh, and for anyone else looking for drivers/software, this is also a good repository: https://www.touslesdrivers.com/index.php?v_page=12&v_code=512 the site is in french but if you find your driver you can click on it and scroll to the bottom of that page and it will have "English version of this page" option. If that is too much then Téléchargement means Download :)

Help! Madcatz RAT9
It doesn't work properly for me, only the basic mouse buttons work, the left and right mouse buttons, and the scroll wheel. It doesn't recognize the special buttons. Please give me a link to the windows 11 driver. Thanks

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
